So I've got to ask, when Trump is impeached, how would you suggest we handle Pence? My fear is that he's far worse than Trump because he knows the game and won't do something that could get him removed from office as well.
This is a great question and something that’s important for all of us to talk about.
Here are my thoughts, as they are now:
I would rather have Pence. I don’t think we can take any comfort in trump’s incompetence. It’s only been a week, and he’s already shown that he intends to follow through with every horrible thing he said during the campaign. Now, part of me thinks that he’s doing all these horrible things right up front in order to shock his opponents into submission, but a bigger part of me thinks that he’s not thinking it through that hard, and just enjoys doing harmful things. Plus, nothing about how people have been responding this week looks anything like submission.
Suggesting that we’re “better off” with Pence is a bit of a hard argument to make, considering that they share many of the same beliefs and policy positions. But I say this because (and I’m open to changing my mind if someone makes a better argument) Pence is more intellectual and rational than trump, and, like you suggest, is less likely to do something that would get him impeached. I actually see this as a benefit, because whereas trump will make decisions based on how he feels (facts and public opinion be damned) I think that Pense would weight those things more. Maybe not to the point we’d like, but more so than trump would.
What do you guys think?
