High Dives - Hands on The Wheel / Something In Between (Audio) Single Review
13/10/25
Begins an indie post-punk Weezer-esque guitar riff followed by a subtle, yet effective verse delivery of great rhythms and a main vocal that fits 'Hands on The Wheel' somewhat magnificently. An adventure song you could imagine hearing during a drive on a motorway packed full of simplicity and accomplishment, thus filled with lyrics of realism all while picturing them falling off the rails and aging (well we all do). As a jangly Pixies 'Where Is My Mind' style guitar scale spirals over a montage of epic harmonies with the backing suiting the lead dynamically, a kind of Smithsy' outro follows, though more as if Damon Albarn was fronting instead of Morrissey. 'Something In Between', has a Mumford & Sons feel to it, not that that's a bad thing. Again the guitar spirally patterns bury their way through a cloud of sonic bliss depicting a love story with no surprises. I'm really enjoying the high pitched harmonizing between both vocals, a real strong point to this group while the build ups and break downs are key element to why they probably called themselves High Dives. Very clever. Find this display of captivating laid back indie stonkers now before they find you. Always great to hear something that takes you away from the harsh reality's of every day life and that's exactly what I felt whilst sitting back with my legs up listening to this.
