Spent a glorious Saturday afternoon learning about pollinators— bees that aren’t livestock aka honeybees. Fantastic turnout at the OFNC (ofnc.ca) office @ Fletcher Wildlife Garden (between experimental farm and carleton u). Learned how to identify bees that don’t look like bees— including small carpenter and leaf-miner bees (both look look more like flying ants. ) FYI: Bee houses are cool and trendy (costco). A good place for these solitary lil souls to set up an apartment/nursery/pollen storage... but housekeeping is a bitch... so, they gave us some advice as per engineering an easy cleanup. Roll parchment paper on a dowel/knitting needle/pencil/cat-toy wand and shove that little puppy into the bamboo/drilled hole. FYI: Bees won’t move into a dirty pre-owned apartment... #somethingwehaveincommon #pleasebeefriendly (at Fletcher Wildlife Garden) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bxqg88BnosN/?igshid=14jk4w68t5yq5
