MORNING HUE
“When light hits an object, some wavelengths are absorbed and others are reflected. The reflected wavelengths determine the ‘hue’ we perceive. They may differ in their saturation and lightness, but their fundamental color identity is one.” – quote from a definition of hue. I knew Hue on Facebook during the Covid-19 pandemic, during the social distance to be exact. He worked in ICU and often…

Butter
ang unang spelling na natutunan kong kantahin when i was just learning to read in gradeschool: b u t t e r ... f l y, butterfly ♫ Ngayon ko lang napansin na may butter sa butterfly. Christmas day na in 2 days. Ang daming sad posts sa social media. Sa reality medyo sad din talaga ang mga tao. Parang they are alone amidst the crowd. Seems that they are invisible and broken while trying hard to patch things up so people can see them okay. I used to be where they are right now. It wasn't easy. While I was there, overwhelming sadness was drowning me, and I had a duty to extend compassion, light, and hope to the little ones who just know Jesus. It was tough. But Jesus was with me there. Immanuel. ‘The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel’ (which means ‘God with us’)” (Matthew 1:22–23) God is with me. Knowing that the Savior is with me in that very moment where I cannot lift my hands in worship... and surrender kinda lightens the struggle, I should say. I was there almost every year. Last year ko lang napansin yong pattern. Sabi ng friend ko, birthday blues daw (kasi december baby ako), sabi ng isa kong friend, part siguro ng holiday blues kasi magpapalit ang taon, maraming realizations, and many other reasons. Sa case ko, na halos every year nandon sa struggle, parang every year, iba-iba ang reason ko tbh. Tipong dinadaanan ko bawat category, kasi kailangan ko malungkot every December 😂 Dumating pa ko sa point na, I instantaneously decided to quit my job just because I don't know what is happening inside of me. Iba-iba ang nasasabi kong reasons why I quit, kasi sa totoo lang hindi ko talaga alam ang pinaka-reason ko. Tinanggap naman ako ulit ng boss ko when I showed up. Shawrawt! Nakakatawa na lang ikwento ngayon, pero hindi yon nakakatawa nong nandon ako. Umiiyak ako ng walang dahilan. Minsan naman, lahat ng dahilan iniiyakan ko. Seeing people struggle with something this yuletide season breaks my heart--but not in that way, like before. Seeing them going through it breaks my heart because some of them don't know the Savior yet. Nong nandon ako, kilala ko na si Jesus. Alam ko yong blessed assurance. Meron akong hope. Nahirapan pa rin ako. Pano na lang sila? Finding the way out should be intentional. Yan ang isa sa mga natutunan ko. Jesus answered, “I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.

Something new
I first met and photographed Thien for Sonday Savour at the end of 2021, just right after the social distance. The ‘vibe’ of Covid-19 season was still somewhere in the air. He was still doing Yoga then and I named the entry “Peace of Mind” Now everything seems brighter. So many things have changed. I’ve seen his Facebook stories lately in which he does skateboarding. Quite a surprise to me. So I…
