redesigns for the main 3 have been finished!

unrendered as these are meant to be used as color reference when I make sprites. these ended up way more drastic than I thought they were gonna be, especially Sweet's! I expected Cap'n to change the most, but he's the most similar. I'll be off to try and buy Deltarune in order to play through the new chapters now! There's some explanation for the changes under the cut.

A lot of details got simplified and the color palette cut down to be more sprite-friendly. Most of the original designs had colors that were wayyy too close to each other while making the color count bigger than it should've been.

Color palettes made more distinct from each other while actually having shared colors instead of being the same hue. The original designs were color picked from a lightened version of their shop sprites, these were mostly hand-picked. I wanted to make them look more color-coded instead of all being extremely purple, while also having the cohesion from sharing colors that the Deltarune Sweet Cap'n Cakes do! You might notice that Kace is missing the shared yellows, that's intentional.

Sweet's eye now has a shadow over it like Kris! His pupil won't show up in sprites, this is just for most of my artwork. It's a pretty old idea, I just didn't have the idea to move his hat more downwards to justify it back then. Dunno how I didn't think of that.

Speaking of Sweet, his outfit should hopefully be a little more readable as cyber in addition to traditional fantasy bard than his original design.

Cap'n got the shades that I was originally going to give him when I was sketching the first takes! I'm not sure if I'll still have his shades be moved upwards in chapter 2 onwards or just have his pupils become visible, though.

A LOT changed for Kace. Mostly for making him appear more as his own character instead of a fusion of Ralsei and K_K. His outfit takes some inspiration from those anonymous musicians and DJs who wear masks over their faces. I thought it'd be neat if the Delta Rune was flipped in some way in this AU since the dark and light worlds are, making the angel into the demon or something. Since Ralsei kinda has devilish features, Kace has angelic, I guess? I'll just say his new handle is supposed to look like a stylized halo.

omg I saw your human designs for scc and they're so good! I'm already picturing like...a human au but there's still the dark world and dark fountains, but when a dark fountain gets opened the people around it get pulled in and become the NPCs (instead of the NPCs being humanized objects like in regular deltarune). or maybe an au where the human scc take kris's place as the protags of deltarune? maybe I just want to see human dark world versions of scc idk

i didn’t really have anything for any of this except for that last one! there’s already an au where scc are the protagonists called @songstruck-au ! it’s my favorite au ok. so here’s just my human designs in their outfits basically (+kace design :])

hold on i just realized. jockington and songstruck au capn are dressed the same. they already had the backwards hat and sunglasses in common originally but songstuck capn also wears a letterman jacket

I'm not sure how I didn't notice that at all when designing his clothes

CHAPTERS 3 & 4 HAVE BEEN ANNOUNCED + CHANGE OF SOME PLANS

Hey all, it's been a while! I've been very inactive lately, even on my main. But things might be getting back on track with the recent announcement from the Nintendo Direct! This'll be pretty long, so everything will be under the read more.

As you already know, I decided to put Songstruck on hiatus until the next Deltarune chapters come out in order to get an idea of where the plot is going, as writing with only 2 chapters as a base is really hard! Now that we have a set release date for 3 & 4, I'll try to start working on it again!

To be completely honest, I haven't done anything related to Songstruck and Deltarune for the past few years since the hiatus announcement. Some personal stuff happened, and I mostly wanted to take a long break and not do anything big for a while.

Furthermore, even with the poll results I've gotten, I don't think I have the energy to make Songstruck a comic anymore. Don't worry, I still want to make the full story! It's mostly a combination of my burnout with art and my concerns with a story like Deltarune's not fitting with a comic format. Actually, I've been learning how to use the Godot engine, and a few months ago I bought Aseprite! I've reconsidered the idea to make it into a fangame, and it'll be great practice. (The only real problem is that I suck at composing music... which will be important!!!) Also, don't worry if you're unable to play, I'm thinking of uploading full playthroughs on my YT to make them more accessible.

Is it too ambitious? Yes, but so was the comic. (it was probably even more ambitious) So what's this blog gonna be used for, then? Well, I'll still be answering asks and posting concepts and other silly things relating to the AU, and perhaps even some dev logs! I've also got a few redesign ideas coming up since my character design and artistic skills have improved since the start of this project, so look forward to at least redesigns of our main three, and remember to give me much needed feedback!

Don't expect anything to be done fast, though. There's a LOT of things I want to work on AND I've got school, so things will inevitably take a while. I don't want Songstruck to go into development hell and have myself rewrite chapter 1 several times again, so I'll try motivating myself much more. I'll start by retagging a lot of older posts to match a better format so that this blog can be navigated easier, like songstruck: updates for posts like these.

Asks will be off at the start of June in my timezone so I can avoid spoilers as soon as possible! Hope you all enjoy Deltarune!
