Game proposition (and something I might make myself, I dunno):
Warioland styled Sonic game? Or as many others would know the genre, Pizza Tower or AntonBlast styled Sonic game?
I feel like the speed of both of those games, as well as the premise of "get in, get out quick", would suit a Sonic game very well
More under the cut; careful, it's a looooong ramble down there!
The general idea is like, what if we got a game based on storming Eggman's various bases in different zones?
The zone/act structure would probably be 3 Acts per 1 zone for 5 zones, with the third acts being boss acts; the first act would be getting to the base (somewhat standard classic gameplay), the second would be tearing through it and getting out (Pizza Tower/Warioland type gameplay), and the third act would be a boss within the wreckage or just outside
This structure could be played with too, having the first act be getting to the base, the second be getting THROUGH the base, and the third act being a tense "escape boss" as you fight it while racing the timer, which would likely be a Metal Sonic boss and the final boss
The special stages would be little pocket dimensions with mini acts in them, that would exclusively be Warioland styled and see Sonic escape the destabilized special stage after taking the Emerald
There would also be multiple playable characters, specifically Sonic and Amy at minimum, who reference the play styles of the aforementioned Warioland style games (Sonic referencing Pizza Tower in play style, Amy referencing AntonBlast, Knux representing Warioland itself maybe?)
I dunno where I'm going with this, but just an idea I wanted to share; thinking about figuring out Gamemaker in order to make this... If y'all wanna hear more about this, feel free to let me know whether that be through asks or other forms of interest in this post
I'll put my thoughts about this theoretical game under the tag "Sonic Dashdown"
Just found an incredible animation that inspired me to think a little about how I'd want Super to function in Dashdown (my theoretical Warioland-like Sonic game)
Rant and animation referenced under the cut
I think that in Dashdown, Super wouldn't be as "stop-and-start" as fan and mainline games tend to portray it
Cause he has like, a funky little animation right? He stops for a sec, does the pose, and flashes into Super
But I think that Super's transformation should be dynamic, should flow, should be clean and smooth and snappy
I got super inspired by a Sonic Rush animation (Here's the animation btw check ts out!!!)
Getting into the meat of it in specific before I ramble a ton, I think that 1. Super should have slight variant animations depending on your state entering the form (running/jumping vs. attacking vs. falling etc), 2. Super should keep all movement momentum when entering the form, and 3. Super's transformation should have a hitbox so you can combo enemies into your Super transformation and blast through them >:]
