regarding Jean in The Rain
Okay, you know what? Some people don’t have a super-cool magical place in The Group™. Not every person in every collective has a special purpose, or a quirky little trick that they do, and not every weakness becomes A Strength.
Was Jean kind of useless? Yes! Was that realistic and also achingly human? YES.
(Aside: Honestly, people would’ve liked him if he was conventionally attractive. He would’ve been “quirky” then, or funny. But he’s not, so no one likes him. (What a fucking shock). Not everyone has to be hot to have a purpose, or merit.)
Jean was a good character, a human character, and he fucking mattered. Some people are just people. And they’re just in the group. And they matter because the other people in the group give a shit about them.
This was a ragtag band of people who came together at the literal end of the world. Not a goddamn superhero organization.
