Hey! I'm looking for a fic where Erik was a photographer and nominated for the Pulitzer (I think...)? It was based around the Syrian conflict. Thanks a lot!
Hi Anon!
You are looking for Quiet Company by Sophia_Bee [Cherik, NC17, Complete]
Erik Lehnsherr is always on the move. He’s spent the last many years going from war torn country to war torn country telling the stories of the people there through photographs. Then one of his pictures is selected as a winner for the Pulitzer Prize and Erik finds himself stuck in London for longer than he wants. He ends up with an assignment to photograph Charles Xavier, a wealthy philanthropist who is intrigued to find himself working with a Pulitzer-winning war photographer. Erik is far less intrigued by someone he considers privileged and out of touch. Both of their lives are about to change in ways they couldn’t imagine.
So the ginger fruited chicken with couscous is in the oven. Kids are eating. Cookie dough is made and waiting in line. Sometimes I think I need two ovens. Oh, and Kerrygold butter on sale at Costco. All good.
sophiabee reblogged your post:I can’t find my stupid nostril hoop so I’m gonna...
I had to take mine out for surgery recently and my piercing started to close. All fixed now.
I have a screw in there now (which sounds horrifying to the uninitiated but it’s just a stud, don’t worry). I can leave it alone with nothing in it for a few days, and honestly hoops are cheap as heck and easy to replace, but man, what a hassle you know haha and damn screws hurt to put in if you’ve left it a while
I'm happy to beta.
Thank you for the offer! Anon - @sophiabee has kindly offered to help!
My son is eight years old. We have never once told he must grow up to date or marry a woman. We don’t care. He can do what he would like in life, and love who he wants. Yet the other day he comes to me and says, “Mommy, when I’m a teenager, I’m going to have to get a girlfriend.” So of course I asked why he thought this, and he tells me that all the teens in the TV shows he watches have girlfriends. I looked at him and said, “baby, you could have a boyfriend too” and his shoulders visibly sagged. This is a kid with TWO MOMS. Yet he cannot see not only his family represented in the shows he watches, at eight years old, he is already getting the pressure that he must choose a member of the opposite sex to have a relationship with. He’s just trying to figure out his world and his world is telling him there is one way to be. I want it to stop. I don’t want my eight year old to be facing this. I want the world to stop reinforcing heteronormativity over and over. Yet as a society we don’t question this at all. I imagine if I went out there and said that I want my kid to see same-sex relationships in his TV shows, shows geared towards kids HIS age, the world would tell me I am being inappropriate, yet romantic relationship between members of the opposite sex are portrayed in kids programming ALL OF THE TIME. Like the new Peanuts movie where Charlie Brown spends his time trying to get the affections of the Little Red Haired Girl. I just get mad. I’m queer. These are my people, my cause, my world. My kids are hurt by it.
Ahhhhh. I’m just waiting for my friend on the interview panel to send me some sort of vague message. I mean, it’s totally spoiled to think should know THE SAME DAY. I will now go putz to distract myself.
