Assisi (Umbria). Church of Santa Maria delle Rose (before 1198). In the homonymous street, a little anonymous, is this mysterious church, near San Rufino, formerly called S. Maria Minore or even S. Maria del Sopramuro, because it is located above the mighty Roman wall behind the temple of Minerva. It too, coincidentally, rises on the remains of a pagan temple. The interior has frescoes of the sixteenth century.
