yes please run that character into the ground. they need to be swaying and staggering by the climax of the book/movie/episode
BUT
they have to get to collapse after. they need to fold into a heap while their friends/team scramble to break their fall. deprive them of that rest until the very end but then they need to actually get it.
bonus points if they’re delirious/drifting/only half-aware the comfort is happening
Medic who runs themselves ragged making sure everyone is okay after a particularly rough battle.
Medic who doesn't stop until they're absolutely certain everyone else's injuries have been cared for and no one is in danger of dying.
Medic who finally collapses, either out of sheer exhaustion or because of the serious injury they've been hiding up until now.
There's something about a Whumpee passed out from an injury or illness or whatever being mistaken as just being sleepy or lazy. Imagine they're on the verge of collapsing but they can't find anywhere they can collapse that the team won't find them, worry about them, waste their supplies and direct their focus on something so "insignificant".
And so they hide in plain sight, they crouch on the tree, slumped over as their vision tunnels and finally darkens completely. Teammate finds them and shakes them awake, calling them lazy and later realizing they're not waking up even when they shake them violently.
Teammate notices the intense heat of their skin or their tightly scrunched eyebrows or the blood seeping through their shirt or maybe the heavy breaths and the profuse sweat running down their face Or maybe Teammate lets go from shaking Whumpee but as soon as they do, Whumpee falls on the ground, shaking and writhing maybe conscious, maybe unconscious.

It's the sounds that come with the whumpee collapsing:
the breathless gasp for help
the slam of a hand on a surface
the frantic scrabbling as they try to find something to hold themselves up
the thud as they hit the floor
the thud of several other items hitting the floor
the sudden silence as everything settles
and then running footsteps over hard ground, shouting that increases in urgency with every step, rustling as clothes are adjusted to see the wound, calling out to those they can for help, for a doctor, for anybody, and then finally, as sirens sound in the distance, the quiet reassurance of hey, it's okay, I've got you
