Soren: Are you even truly injured, or do you believe women prefer a man lying on the ground, covered in dirt?

Jakob: Lady Corrin’s laundry should be dry in about an hour, I think her armor may be due for a cleaning— oh where I’d put her spare bedding…

Soren: Out of my way. What are you, a babysitter?

Jakob: Pardon? What business is it of child who can’t see over a bar counter?

Soren: Child?

Jakob: You don’t belong in the Knight’s quarters. Leave.

Soren: What I can’t get over is how you fuss over a grown adult is all.

Jakob: Your types are all over. No sense of duty or loyalty to anyone in your life.

Soren: Hmph. I’m my lord’s tactician and oversee affairs related to company inventory and accounts.

Jakob: That job is hardly personal. I personally make my lady’s favorite tea every day.

Soren: I am an adept mage and fight at Ike’s side. Without me, entire battles may not have been won. What do you do, the dishes?

Jakob: A mage? Pah. When I am at Lady Corrin’s side, I have no need to be protected; I protect her instead.

Soren: If you step outside I’ll show you who needs to be protected—

Jakob: You’ll regret it! I’m obviously much more valuable to my liege.

Soren: If all you can do is stand in front of her in armor or dust her crown, I doubt it. You’ll see my magic is not to be mocked.

Jakob: A shuriken will make quick work of your attitude.

Soren: I use wind magic, but you’re welcome to be fool enough to try throwing something at me.

The next round begins and carries with it a sense of finality. Once more, strange new spells are granted to her, a ring slid on her finger and a brief explanation of what she is capable of. Mitama spares it little mind. Her focus is already determined, eyes lingering on Henry even as the new enemies are summoned to face them.

Fix the mistake. Ensure they survive. Ensure that no one else suffers for your failings.

Her usual physic spell is not returned to her. Instead, a new spell is given, one that grabs her attention immediately. Fortify...

The go is given, and Mitama makes her move immediately. She takes a calming breath and focuses her energy, feels the spell dance within her as it gathers and, throwing her hands forward, casts.

Mitama rolls a 12. 4 Health! Henry, Soren, and Febail recover 4 health.

It does not fly as she is used to, does not seek out a target and fly to them specifically. Rather, the spell grows outwards from her, covers all allies to her team and, from what Mitama can tell, heals them all.

A stunned silence follows Mitama’s spell. All of them...perhaps she should study faith a little further than she already had when all of this had ended.

To think on later. For now, they have all recovered, and Mitama lets out a laugh as Febail and Soren return. “Please try not to go back immediately this time, the both of you...”

An Anonymous Request

To be honest, Linhardt didn’t expect anyone to take his note in the advice box seriously. The note was more of a way for him to vent his frustrations at his housemates, not an actual request for advice.

So it was odd when he decided to follow up on one note’s idea. It was from Soren, a student in the Golden Deer house. Nobody in his house would think to look for him in an outsider’s room.

Pillow and blanket in hand, Linhardt walked over to Soren’s room. After hesitating for a moment, he knocked on the door. When Soren opened the door, Linhardt held out a small bag of gold. 

“The name’s Linhardt... you said I could nap in your room, so I’m here for a nice, peaceful nap.” He loudly yawned, he was getting sleepier every second.

Soren: You there.

Priam: Yeah? What's up?

Soren: If you think Ike's hair looks like that, I have some unfortunate news for you regarding your eyesight.

Priam: Heh, I'm not trying to be Ike. I'm just me.

Soren: Good. Get it through your head that no one compares to him no matter how well they swing a sword.

Priam: Woah there, easy. We all need someone to look up to, a path to follow. Heroes serve as inspiration for the rest of us. Strength of spirit and strength of body— these are what I've pursued all my life, Ike as the prime example.

Soren: You sound as though you know of Ike from legend.

Priam: Well, something like that.

Soren: Legend from history.

Priam: Is it news to you that time can be a little odd? Stranger things happened to people where I come from.

Soren: I suppose it can be.

Soren: I wonder...

Priam: No spoilers.

Soren: Right. I have no interest in anyone thinking they can tell me my destiny. Only I can make and live that choice.

Priam: Hey, see? That's a way in which we're alike!

Soren: ... (walks away)

Priam: Whew. I didn't have to admit I don't know a single thing about Ike's personal life.

Soren: I’ve thought about what you said.

Zelkov: You needn’t force yourself to *understand*, few do.

Soren: Well, you implied that something like crochet could be a reason to live. I wanted to deny that. It seemed silly.

Zelkov: What *changed*?

Soren: It’s true, I throw myself into my studies. My sole concern, someone I care about, is not always around for me to orbit. I too seek purpose.

Soren: I wanted to scoff, but I think that finding purpose in something small might be genius. As long as it’s effective.

Zelkov: It must be difficult, being *away* from your person.

Soren: …yes. Yes, I once thought it might kill me.

Zelkov: But these difficult things leave us still with *beating* hearts.

Soren: So we have to make our own purpose.

Soren: Maybe making art and reading the whole library at once isn't such a bad way to do it. Even if it’s not for me.

Zelkov: I get the *impression* you are not generally an empathetic type, but you tried for me. I’m touched.

Soren: No, I’m not, but I feel something around you.

Soren: Your presence is actually calming. I'll tolerate it.

Zelkov: I feel similarly. Your focus is *pleasant* to be near.

Zelkov: I look forward to *our* time together.

Zelkov: I didn’t get *your* name, my child.

Soren: Not a child. And you don’t need it.

Zelkov: I see, we are in agreement over how *little* trivial social rituals matter.

Soren: You’re suggesting we’re somehow similar.

Zelkov: You throw yourself into your *studies* with a tenacity to match mine. I’m yet to see you idle.

Soren: Yes, I make the most of the library here. I’m never satisfied with only a surface level understanding of a subject I’m studying. Even with my mastery of magic, it would be a waste to not exhaust all of my resources for anything new.

Zelkov: Hm.

Zelkov: Since we have some level of similarities… I was wondering if you’d *understand* something.

Soren: What?

Zelkov: My mind is always *racing*, chasing after the next thing to sink into without a thought for anything else, and I cannot be between projects. Ever. That is why I have multiple *bookmarks*.

Soren: How do you process anything like that?

Zelkov: Crochet is very soothing. I find that after so much time reading, some *yarn* time helps tie it together.

Soren: Is that another project of yours?

Zelkov: Anything can be. I simply must have a *purpose*.

Soren: Crochet is a purpose?

Zelkov: Yes. I have a couple crochet *pursuits* going right now too.

Soren: If arts and crafts are important to you as research, we aren’t similar at all. That’s a waste of time.

Zelkov: Really? *Interesting.* And you seemed a kindred spirit.

Zelkov: We are two people sitting in a *library* reading. How could I be a source of puzzlement?

Soren: I’ve watched the pile in your arms the past week and how the bookmarks move. You never fully finish a book before picking up a new one.

Zellkov: Astute observation. I *prefer* it that way.

Soren: It could drive a man mad.

Zelkov: I wish to always be *engulfed* in something, so I have something to dive into the next day.

Soren: I stay up to finish my books, and I generally study one at a time. If you can actually make sense of anything you read like that, I’m impressed.

Zelkov: Your mind is *awfully* linear. I think I’d be bored inside your skull.

Soren: Good thing you’re not in it.
