Idk where the idea of letting the juniors "make their own decisions" and "have complete independence" came from, but that isn't going to happen, and it shouldn't because they're literal children. Jiang Cheng literally has Jiang disciples in Jin clothes and he still follows Jin Ling around like an extremely cranky tiger. Postcanon no one is letting the juniors do anything by themselves. Lan Wangji is folding all of himself into a cave an arm-length wide to keep an eye out for flares. Wen Ning is hanging from branches like a big koala. Jiang Cheng is snorkeling all over lakes and rivers. They all know the other two are there but dead clans have nothing on protecting your last remaining family (Lan Wangji is mad mad because he's the odd one out among them).
