It’s hard to listen to René Audiard’s tracks and not be taken away into a kind of parallel world. It’s hard to listen to "Doctrine" or "Nowa Huta" and not be overwhelmed by a sense of letting go, of elevation of both spirit and body.
Sometimes, it happens suddenly. A DJ producer, apparently unknown releases a debut record and he starts popping up everywhere. René Audiard, B-Tracks or Düve, all these denominations are directly related to each other. Because it’s actually the same person!
Soren Jahan, his real name, was born in Boston on December 15th, 1988. He is the co-founder of the label Supply Records, member of the duo B-Tracks, recently creator of Blank Slate (his own label) under the pseudonym of René Audiard. Finally, he is currently working on a new project called Düve.
Originally, Soren is one of those “precocious” children of the music. His interest was cherished in his childhood thanks to his father’s vinyls. An influence based on an atmospheric new wave, discordant electronic dance and reggae-dub tunes. Starting to love music at an early age he later on held various musical experiences; participated in contests to promote young talents (Together Music Festival, Boston), giving him many opportunities in the domain of electronic music. Indeed, his dark and vibrant techno made a grand impression.
Buoyed by this success, he began to create a label with the feeling of having the ability to gather an audience around him. Supply Records is then born. An independent label that is particularly concentrated on dance music (house and techno). It produces, amongst others, Will Martin and John Barera, partner of Jahan in the duo B-Tracks.
B-Tracks is a formation made in Boston, the two sidekicks (Soren Jahan and John Barera) offer us an inspiring music founded on synth sounds, drum machine patterns and dub influences. During concerts, their DJ sets exude an enthusiasm and an overrunning energy with the objective to create expressive dance music.
More recently, in June 2012, Soren Jahan released his first album “Pechorin”, under alias René Audiard on Supply Records. Using a pseudonym makes sense because Soren gets out of his habitual register. Through “Pechorin”, we clearly find the attraction of Soren for the deep and dark techno as well as for the pure dub, which we might believe devoid of aesthetics, all mixed in an almost irritating and completely psychedelic rhythm. René Audiard is actively involved in the progression of the dub techno, very present on the Berlin electronic scene.
At the beginning of 2013, Soren Jahan launched his own label, Blank Slate with his friend, Kamel Naeem. Based in Ithica, Blank Slate explores the most amazing projects to analyze experimental techno, dance and electronica. The releases of the label, although very eclectic, are praised by the critics upon their appearances thanks to impressive contributions of Arnaldo, North Lake, Qy and Mirko .
The label has greeted a mysterious duo named Düve, for it’s fifth release, Blank Slate 005. Düve expresses a penchant for percussion, brass and captivating strings of the Middle East, the idea being to find the turbulent atmosphere of a Medina. This duo is simply an umpteenth project of our dear Soren Jahan attended of Ali Cakir.
This may seem risky, but the imprint of René Audiard is one: the desire to get off the beaten track and experiment more possible combinations, as surprising as it may sound.
