tries to make them laugh.

             the anecdote wasn’t all that entertaining to say the least. it was something simple about an afternoon at the bathhouse and a little squirrel that fell into the water. it wasn’t even remotely amusing. maybe for the monkey it was, but for him it was just another story. what really made him laugh was immediately afterwards when, without thinking, ritsu’s foot caught on the edge of his dress and he fell face first into the nearest wall. that alone got a decent chuckle.

“Hmm?” He took a long sip of his tea as he looked over at Ritsu, a warm smile spread across his face as he nodded a bit. He didn’t particularly have the heart to tell the other that they were both in fact at Ayame’s home, so it wouldn’t really make sense for him to go anywhere at all. “Of course Ritsu darling, I’ll stay with you as long as you like.” he reached over to gently squeeze the other’s hand. 

“Just rest your eyes and by the time you wake up dinner should be here.” he offered, having already ordered take out for the both of them.

          ❝ so--- guess i’ll just stick with the bitch face, would that work ? ❞ if he can’t smile or remain stoic without causing panic, the easiest is to completely give up on try altogether. in his heart of hearts he knew that his actions weren’t out of malice, perhaps that was enough for him. ❝ because-- and i bet you, if i were to smile right now... it would open a portal to the darkest reaches of hell... and you wouldn’t want that. ❞

          or... he could mess with ritsu and make matters worse. that’s another option.

       ❛ and i suppose you’re here to provide both . ❜ not that he means to sound harsh — there’s a lack of empathy that comes when anyone dares approach a man of winter’s touch . cool hands now sooth a steaming mug of hot chocolate, a hum of thanks pressed into the rim while taking a tentative sip . there’s nothing to say , the dragon realizes , that will make things better . he’s never been one to voice concerns involving himself , he’d much rather care for the rest of the juunishi .❛ sit , please . ❜ hand comes down to pat the floor beside him , good eye trailing over to do the other a once over .

       ❛ i’m not going to worry you over something that happened long ago , so please — i appreciate the sentiment but i don’t need it . ❜ hatori knows ritsu will worry regardless of what he says , but it was more for his sake than the monkey’s .❛ we can sit for a little while longer , then i need to get back to work . ❜
