How do you write (and keep) a story short? Like I have a few stories that were just maybe 7 scenes but while plotting they morphed into full novels. So I never finish anything in a timely manner! What advice would you give those trying to write short stories?

have you seen any of my stuff LMAO you’re asking the wrong one 😂 everything i’ve written has expanded far beyond what i intended it to be, i have a bonafide problem!! 😭

especially if it’s a smutfic, i tend to not get anything out of true pwps?? like…for me, for the fic to be good, i gotta know the characters’ motivations. why are they fucking? i don’t tend to care for fics that start in the middle of sex and end after--i consider those true pwps, and i’m not into those as much. where is the buildup?? it’s why even in my fics that i label “pwp” i still spend 1-2k fleshing out the characters before they even touch each other. i honestly can’t help myself 🤦🏽‍♀️ and when writing a reader-insert, i feel like that feeling is magnified: who are these people and why do i care lol 

then comes the issue of me being a person who naturally writes fics that are driven by dialogue. it doesn’t matter how long i think a piece is going to turn out, once i actually start writing the characters interacting, that number gets blown out of the water 😂

anyways, i’m sorry i am no help 😭 all of my ideas end up being 10k minimum 😭
