Hi! Through your posts I have noticed how clean and organised your flat is. I have recently moved and am building my home bit by bit. Do you have any tips on how to make it so organised and clean? How do you manage to make time to keep it up? I am finding it hard to make time and find energy. Please share your tips.
hi! oh oh it is a constant battle against the wave of consumerism and endless "stuff" that seems to just enter our home, isn't it. every time we bring something in, we seem to have to re-jig everything to make it fit and I agree with you, it's so hard to find time and energy. j says everything should have a place to go, and everything should go back to that place when it's done with. so far this simple rule has worked well and I can immediately tell when we haven't assigned something a home because it floats around causing everything else to go out of place. a gorgeous vase bought for us by friends as a housewarming gift still nomads around the flat, sometimes on a table, sometimes by the bed, sometimes on a shelf, and it kicks other things out of their place continually storage furniture has been a good change – both our sofa and bed house cables, art tools, music equipment, spare toilet paper, spare linens. we also bought one of those end-of-the-bed benches that opens up to be full of ticket stubs, childhood photos, beach towels and cds. j has also been on a five year odyssey selling and donating absolutely everything we don't use, he spends every sunday morning re-listing or packing up mostly dvds and old band tour t-shirts, from a past life. his brain works better when there's less stuff and I support it. I leave my laundry where I shouldn't and he is patient. every year we say we'll combine our stationery and then we don't, and we've promised ourselves to sort through That One Drawer that's just full of odds and ends when we "have a free weekend" which never comes! all part of the fun of living. I just saved a 90's tamagotchi from the ebay pile, it has no home and has been moved around from the bedside table to the coffee table to the shoe rack.
would love to know how other people move through this because it's definitely hard work! our flat is quite small and one day it would be nice to have a tiny bit more room but I also am grateful that it challenges us to be mindful with what we own :)
