Sorting Hat Tag Game

Monsters and villains and ghouls, oh my! This October, in the run up to Halloween, take a villain, monster, or ghoulish character (or maybe they’re just misunderstood!!!) and argue which Hogwarts House you think they belong in! Will they all end up in Slytherin??

Character: The Darkling Book: Shadow and Bone (The Grisha Trilogy) Author: Leah Bardugo Genre: Fantasy, YA Hogwarts House: Slytherin

Why that house? How do you say duh in Ravkan? So originally I thought maybe we could give this guy a chance and sort him into Ravenclaw because he is so smart and witty and oh so creative. Buuuuuut then there was the whole taking over the world thing and killing anyone who went against him and the whole doing anything possible to get what he wants. So, sorry Darkling you should learn how to like green

What would be their Halloween costume? Oh shit this is hard. It took me like 4 days just to come up with a character and the damn house y’all think I can think of this? just kidding it would have to be something dark (duh) so I’m going to go with like Sweeney Todd because I feel like the Darkling would appreciate the matters in which he took care of his problems and his feelings.

Would they make it to the end of a horror movie? If it was Shadow and Bone Darkling yes for sure all the way. However crazy Darkling would not so lets focus on semi put together Darking shall we? He would so make it to the end. So much so that he would probably make the bad guy start doing his bidding.

Character: Alex 

Book: Labyrinth Lost

Author:  Zoraida Córdova

Genre: YA fantasy

Hogwarts House: Gryffindor

Why? (bullets or paragraphs)

She’s a Chosen One, and spends most of the book on a quest, which is standard Gryffindor activity

She acts recklessly in the beginning in quite a ‘first year Harry Potter’ kind of way

She starts off the book quite selfish and afraid, but grows in courage and confidence over the course of the book - her bravery is something she learns as part of her character development

Obvs not Ravenclaw, because the entire inciting incident is her completely misunderstanding a spell. Obvs not a Hufflepuff, because she only learns loyalty as the course of the story progresses, rather than it being her innate characteristic. And despite the death magic, I don’t think she’s a Slytherin, because she initially finds her power scary rather than thrilling/appealing to her ambition.

What do you love most about this character and/or book?

I really like Alex’s growth and character progression over the course of the novel, it felt really believable. And the book is just such a wonderfully, elaborate world unlike anything I’ve read, from suburban Brooklyn to the surreal Los Lagos.

I was tagged by a number of lovely people to do this game/tag under a number of different names, haha  Sorry it took so long, but thank you to @the-forest-library, @addictedtobookss, and @fromprincess2veganess and anyone else who tagged me to do this one (but whose posts I lost when my browser died yesterday). 

Title: Code Name Verity

Author: Elizabeth Wein

Genre: Historical Fiction

Character: Verity (no spoilers)

Hogwarts House: Slytherin

Why? (bullets or paragraphs)

The very essence of Verity’s storyline is that she does what needs to be done, no matter the repercussions. She’s a strong, incredibly smart woman who stands up for what she believes in. Sure, she is very loyal and brave (typical Gryffindor traits) as well, but ultimately I decided that she fits a little better into Slytherin and is a great example of a character that shows Slytherin traits but is not evil. 

What do you love most about this character and/or book?

I don’t think there’s anything I don’t like about Verity. She’s awesome and brave and strong and <3  Which is what I love about the book, too. It’s all about amazing women!
