San Vito Lo Capo, Sicily. I am honored to be representing and speaking on behalf of Amnesty International's 'SOS Europe' migrant campaign tonight at the opening of the SiciliAmbiente #Documentary Film Festival' opening this evening in San Vito Lo Capo, #Sicily. On show will be 16 images that I photographed last September and October while traveling thru Lampedusa, Malta and Southern Italy documenting the plight of desperate men, women and children arriving from Northern #Africa, Syria and Sudan in particular. Thanking again friends from #SavetheChildren (Italy), #DoctorsWithoutBorders and Amnesty International (UK and Italy)...plus the many more I spoke to along the way who helped me understand this grave issue in greater detail. July 14 2015 'S.O.S. Europe: People before borders' is Amnesty International’s campaign for the human rights of migrants, refugees and asylum-seekers in Europe and at its borders. People move to #Europe for different reasons. Most flee #persecution or war. Others leave because of chronic poverty. They hope to find a safer, better future in Europe. But too often they find a different reality. Europe is failing migrants, #refugees and asylum-seekers. Negative attitudes towards #asylum-seekers and migrants are widespread. European countries are stepping up measures to control migration and these cause serious human #rightsviolations. People on the move have their rights violated, often out of the public eye. They are effectively made invisible. #photo @clarkegiles @gettyreportage #Migrants #AmnestyInternational #Lampedusa #Italy #Sicily #Malta #SOSEurope #Libya #Syria #Sudan #war #poverty #migration #EU @amnestyuk
