Konstantine was such a parasite. Ezra could only stare with judgment when he saw how much Eun loved spending time with him. It was easy to see that the doctor had the required codes and things to say to be entertaining — he was polite, he was intelligent, he was picking up the mood fast, and he could last way too long with conversations. He had visited Ezra to check on his treatment, but Eun was there too, and it was a privileged moment that Konstantine could only ruin.
Several times, he had followed the doctor around his apartment to make sure that he wouldn’t nest for too long. Ezra couldn’t help himself — Eun was not visiting him as often as he secretly wished, and he was genuinely excited whenever the young man would still allow him a bit of his time.
“When are you leaving?” He asked again, while Eun had just brought a glass of water. Konstantine was sitting on his couch, but not ready to finally leave them alone. Ezra was not really caring about his grandiose prose about his last mission for Kaizen, nor the fact that he had been sleeping for days in his car, was tired, needed rest but still managed to make it because he was worried about his neuropsychiatric patient. Ezra felt as if he was shrinking back to everyone's burden once more. He just desired a little bit of normality in this life.
“Please, I’m perfectly handling myself. You could have postponed it until tomorrow, or the day after. I'm still taking my meds.” The accountant sighed, but was distracted when Eun offered to catch up for a couple of minutes on the balcony. Happily leaving the gigantic hairy beast to his natural loneliness, Ezra stood back up and followed the boy outside. His smile increased when Eun started threatening him.
“Oh, am I being rude?” Ezra chuckled and pulled up his sleeve, revealing his watch. He knew he was, but he was frustrated. “You usually stay there for a few hours, sometimes at night. It’s already been two hours cut and ditched in the trash with his presence, and I only asked for a bit of your time between two errands for any other people from my group.”
He nervously pushed his glasses onto his nose. “Kaizen gets to see you, Konstantine gets to see you, Mattia gets to see, and I know you sometimes even sleep in his bed… But what about me?”
No, no, no, he was sliding back to something dangerous. He inhaled. He was cold and shivering, but all of his toxic thoughts stayed in the coffin of his throat.
He turned around, hands on the rail. “I’ll wait outside. The air is not too polluted tonight,” he decided. “You can go home when you two are done talking.” He took out his crosswords from his inner pockets and sat down.
