11 Questions Tag! Answer and then ask your own. From Rachael :)
1. what is one article of clothing you own that always evokes a memory when you put it on? There's this navy blue striped fleece of Michael's I'd had with me through the years I dated him in college. I wore it like an extra limb, over numerous tanks in various places. Every time I slip it on, he comes to mind. Not necessarily one particular memory, but reoccurring moments. Curled up together in the movie theater, my calves on his thighs and the jacket's sleeves stretched across my knuckles, studying on the twin in the dorm, wishing instead to be cuddled up in his arms, drizzly days outside on the deck looking out over the pond as he smoked his cigarettes, countless nights in bed with wooly socks on chilly days. 2. what do you do when you’re having a no-good-terrible-very-bad-day? These days, days like this usually stem from happenings at work. And honestly there's not much I feel like I can do while I'm working to turn the day around for the better, except to be mindful of my breathing and ask others for help. I feel like a pinball, at the mercy of that annoyingly competitive kid everyone's encountered at the arcade. The hospital is such a quick-paced environment, and by the time I get home at night, what little energy I do have left is spent getting in the shower and pretty much going straight to bed, especially if I have to work the next day. Michael's embrace always calms me, and so does talking to my mom. The trick for me is learning to leave work at work, so that I can absorb myself in the things I truly enjoy when I'm off - friends, family, Michael, Tumblr, movies, Kindle, gym, pjs, baked goods, Mexican foods. The little things, right?
3. if you had to pick one TV show to binge-watch for a week straight right now, what would you choose? Girls.
4. What’s your favourite kind of terrain to explore? mountains? ocean? forest? The ocean. I'm a very sensual person. The ocean evokes it all for me - sights, sounds, scents...all the feels.
5. do you consider yourself a snob (having refined tastes) of anything? (i.e. coffee, wine, food, orchestral suites, etc) I'm blanking. I guess the other day I couldn't believe Michael suggested going to the grocery store for canned queso dip when I'd told him I wanted queso, Carlos O' Kelly's queso. "It's the same thing." Uh, no. Far from it (sorry babes). I felt pretty snobby then.
6. what do you do when you’re having an amazing-fabulous-wonderful-just-so-happy day? Be mindful of it, appreciate it, and ideally, write about it. Document it someway - through words, pictures. Think back to those moments on the rougher days.
7. what’s your favourite time of day? I may complain about my body refusing to sleep in when I want it to, but I really do value my mornings (especially those that I have off), and think I'll appreciate this later down the road when other responsibilities, like parenthood, arise.
8. if i wanted to do one thing that would absolutely drive you up the wall, what would it be? Fat-shame. Keep your judgmental comments to yourself. Please and thank you.
9. what is Your Book? you know, like the book you only recommend to a few people because if they hate it you know you’re never going to be able to look at them the same way again even if they’re a really great person like sorry no if you can’t get through the amber spyglass and have your life irrevocably changed or at the very least use an adjective equal to or greater than awesome don’t even talk to me anymore okay? that question sorta got away from me there. Me Before You, by Jojo Moyes
10. what’s your specialty meal? what would you cook for the queen if she was coming over for dinner? Nachos and cornbread. I think this says a lot about where I exist on any culinary spectrum. Womp.
11. i don’t really believe in “guilty pleasures” but what’s one thing you really like that other people might find weird or not like, but you’re all “to heck with you!” and like it anyways? I enjoy syrup on my grilled cheese. I also prefer ice in my cereal. Any friend I've ever told gives me the stink eye but I douse the bread and add the cubes anyways. I've got my parents to thank for this.
