Brunch Spotlight: Sotto 13
Sotto 13 has gotten a lot of attention lately and was even featured on thrillist's recent Best Brunches in NYC list. I have to say that Sotto 13 lives up to its reputation and definitely belongs on the list of best boozy brunches in NYC.
I came here in the middle of rainy winter day but Sotto was a good pick me up on that dreary day. The decor is really cute and trendy while not being obnoxious or overwhelming. Definitely screams "girls brunch." Also the place smells amazing.
They have a decent space with good lighting and skylights so it's really bright and inviting. There are good drink options and two different routes you can take with the bottomless menu. I could tell right away this was going to be a pleasant experience.
The drinks were not weak and they let you switch your order to taste them all. They are generous with their refills and severs walk around with pitchers - even when I asked servers who didn't speak English for a refill they spoke my language. There is also an option for a Prosecco DIY bar for an extra cost, it seemed really cute but we weren't feeling it -definitely something more for a special event. We were just there to catch up, hang out, shit talk other people, and get drunk…what else is there to do during winter?
You can opt to order two brunch small plates and a side, or a pizza. Being well educated brunchers, half of us ordered various small plates/sides and the other half ordered pizzas so we could all share (According to their brunch menu, they have since altered this making things more “family” style based on the number of people in your party...which is essentially the same thing). The small plates and sides came out first. The Poached Tuscan Egg was by far the most amazing small plate (poached eggs are one of the only kinds I will actually eat without thinking about snot).
The lasagna is also great but the frittata was meh. For our side, the rosemary potatoes were average.
We also ordered a Mushroom Ricotta Truffle Pizza and a Spinach pizza. The mushroom was obviously good (#truffleobsessed).
The spinach was a little lame. It was literally a white pizza with raw spinach leaves on top of it. I don't really understand the logic behind this and no one really ate it.
The Damage: incredibly painless and worth every penny for all of $29.00. (Unlimited Bloody Mary, Rasberry Peach Bellini, Screwdriver, or Mimosa). DIY Prosecco bar is an additional $20.
The Deets: 140 W 13th St. - West Village (between 6th and 7th)
Overall consensus: I always enjoy a place with small plates since you can try a few different things. Great service and close to perfect ambiance. I literally recommend this place all the time.
Good for: girls brunch, the all about me brunch, booze brunch, big/small groups, date brunch, basically good for everything.
Post brunch: It was football season so we went to Royal to meet up with some bros.
