If it wasn’t so common now, Ed would have been bright red and trying to tell his brother several reasons why he should not be getting that drunk in the first place. Unfortunately, it was far more common than he would like to admit and telling the younger to stop never seemed to work. All Ed had done was ask about the person who walked past him in the kitchen to leave that morning, “Right, of course…why else would a stranger be leaving the house before noon.” it was only partially sarcastic. What the hell was he supposed to say, the whole thing was still awkward as hell, “…You want something for breakfast? Got some coffee started.”

Dear Alphonse,

This is just for you, I have one for Trisha and Winry that’s just for them, so don’t feel like you have to share this with them, okay? Or do, if that’s what you want. But this one is just yours.

First of all, I can’t say that I’m sorry for this enough times. Because if you’re reading this right now, something happened, and I’m sorry. I don’t know if it was my fault, or if it was old age, or an accident, but I’m sorry I left you, Al. I never wanted to do that. You wouldn’t believe how many of these I’ve written thinking I wasn’t going to get back after doing something stupid. I wish you didn’t actually have to read one of these.

But I don’t want you to beat yourself up over it, you hear me? I don’t want you to lock yourself up or stay away from Trisha and Winry for a while because of this. I want you to keep living your life like you’ve been doing. I want you guys to keep being a family and be happy. You deserve it, you deserve something happy in your life. And you do deserve it, Al. After everything else, a happy life with a loving family is what you deserve to have.

I’m not telling you to not feel bad at all, I just don’t want you to get swallowed up in it, alright? Please. Be an amazing father, the kind we missed out on. And be a great husband, don’t you dare sit there and tell me that isn’t where things are heading. Go do the research you want to try and change things and blend alchemy with alkahestry. Live your life, Al. Feel bad for a while, but then look at everyone around you and keep living your life. I’m not there right now, and I’m not the superstitious or religious type, but I’m never going to leave you for good, little brother. I promise.
