New initiates in the Santeria branch of the Yoruba religion are referred to as Iyawo. As part of initiation one must receive (and be received by) the four warrior orishas Elegua, Ogun, Ochosi, and Ochun. Each of these orishas, with very specific roles, is imperative to the spiritual development of any initiate. Elegua opens the spiritual path, Ogun clears the path of any obstacles, Ochosi helps the initiate to navigate said path, and Ochun insures that the initiate is protected. Each segment of Soulevate will be dedicated to harnessing the power of a different warrior orisha.
