Okay, so I apologize that I’ve fallen behind, but I finally got my transcription software to work so I should hopefully be able to get the articles on SoulJay and 값진 up soon (BTW SoulJay just released another single called “Don’t Go Home” so check that out). I’m going to put in a few hours today getting the interview transcribed so I can start writing. Also, I’ve been told that 진준왕 may be interested in an interview, so going to look into that and possibly set up that interview soon.
In the meantime, some big things are happening.
The first, which I’ve already mentioned, IF (Infinite Flow) is making a comeback 8 years after they disbanded. The duo is made up of 넉없샨 (current leader of Soul Dive) and Bizniz. They released Hall of Fame Project Vol. 1 with the track “Been a Long Time” featuring Junggigo and DJ Soulscape on Jan. 14. I’m currently working on getting an interview with them, so look for that! I’ve been told both of them love doing interviews since they don’t get asked often, so it’s most likely just a matter of getting their contact info and asking.
The female rapper show on Mnet is a go! “Unpretty Rapstar” will start airing on Jan. 29 on Mnet at 11 p.m. The participants are Jolly V, Lil Cham, Kissum, Yook Ji-dam, Tymee, Jimin (AOA), Cheetah and Jessi (Lucky J). There will only be 8 contestants. While I’m happy to see the lineup is mostly underground rappers, I’m a bit dubious of some of the choices. I would have liked to see a couple others on the show, but hey, I’m happy to see where this show will go. Regardless, it’s great to see female MCs in Korea get the limelight. I just hope the producers don’t try and turn it into a catfight. There are some talented ladies in the mix-up and I definitely don’t want to see them reduced to stereotypes. I’m hoping that not only will the talented ladies of Korean underground hip-hop get attention (for the right reasons) but that maybe this show can shed more like on the underground scene as a whole. And I’ll hold off any judgment until I see where it goes. I’m going to chat with my writer friend on SMTM and see if she’s in charge of this one as well. I believe I heard she was, but not sure.
And finally, project group Eluphant made up of Minos and Kebee has been signed with Brand New Music. Never fear, Noise Mob fans, I’m sure Minos and RHYME-A- will continue to work together despite not being at the same label. They are still definitely performing together, but I believe RHYME-A- is trying to focus on his solo album so there hasn’t been any new music from them in awhile. Honestly, I don’t know how Minos juggles all his groups – Speaking Trumpet, Bulhandang, Eluphant and Noise Mob – on top of any solo stuff. But great news for those two and I look forward to their new stuff coming out.
That’s about it with the big stuff for now, other than album releases coming up. Insane Deegie is planning to release his next solo album next month and it’s going to be something very new and different for him. I’ve heard a couple of the tracks and if the rest of the album is anything like those two, it’s going to be really flippin’ good. He’s currently recruiting a bunch of new musicians from the local indie/underground scene for it, so it’s definitely going to be something special.
Anywho, I’m off to work on those articles! Hope everyone has a great weekend!!
