Dean's eyes fluttered open only to be met by a dark, cold, wet room. He was chained to a chair as he heard footsteps coming towards him. He grunted in pain as he felt all the cuts on his arms. He was covered in blood and bruises, yet he had no recollection of what had actually happened.
He looked towards the door as he heard the footsteps get closer, clenching his jaw. His hands began to grip the arm rests as the handle of the door opened, his eyebrows raising. "Show yourself, you coward!"

The short months following Michael and Lucifer's defeat had been full of battles for Castiel, and his wings were aching, but he'd been ignoring Sam's prayers for far too long. He passed orders to Balthazar and Rachel and flicked his wings, straightening the feathers even though Sam couldn't see them and descended to Earth.
Sam's prayer allowed him to find him fairly easily at a motel in eastern North Carolina, and Castiel appeared within the room. Sam was obviously surprised to see him, but Castiel immediately looked away. The aching nothingness inside Sam made him uneasy and facing his mistake was hard.
