Given that their type of fusion monster is rarely seen beyond the areas surrounding Endsville, it came as a shock when Soulos manifested in Sector V. No one had any idea why this group had migrated so far away from the rest of its kind, or why its habits had suddenly changed from travelling in packs to travelling alone. Once they started dropping the Soulo Shells, it threw fusion fighters in a panic to put an end to them as soon as possible.
Since the Soulos are said to be “demolition experts with their Soulo Shell bombs,” it seems clear that they’re the ones orchestrating explosive attacks rather than the Soulo Shells themselves. The former are much stronger than their bomb-making underlings, however, they lack any special abilities and have to fight through regular hand-to-hand combat. They’re also noted to be “weaker copies of Spookas and Spinetinglers.”
Since they only appear in the Academy version of the game, these fusion monsters likely only developed in the latter half of the war. However, the result of this overall weakness--as opposed to how most other fusion monsters only grew stronger in the Future--is because of Earth’s own, preserved state. Thanks to the time-travelers and receiving nanos early, Earth has held out for much longer than Fuse ever expected. In certain cases, like with the infection zones, the expansion of fusion matter has been halted, meaning his army isn’t drawing as much strength as they would normally. He’s had to stretch resources thinner and change tactics. One of these changes included trying to blow up the Sector V Treehouse earlier than he would’ve in the Future’s world just to gain a sudden, swift advantage even if his monsters are still weakened. This is why the Soulos flood Sector V in the Academy version, but not the Future: In the latter case, they wouldn’t need the same numbers to stage the attack and would’ve only adapted into a stronger form and/or gone elsewhere since they did take down the base in their version of events. It’s likely he would continue to use other, sneakier means to win the war as well.
In concept art for the Spookas, it’s revealed that they can make little ghosts that hover around them. For the Soulos, it seems like they adopted this behavior with the Soulo Shells; however, while the former case seemed to be more of a situation of pre-formed versions of the Spookas following their leader, the Soulos exhibit a strong command over the practically brainless Soulo Shells as if they were tools or just extensions of themselves.
Due to their bodies’ shape, the Soulos tend to move slowly and clumsily like other fusion monsters of their kind. This makes taking them down at long range pretty simple.
Since there were no reports of the Soulos travelling through Genius Grove, it’s believed that they either found a different path from Endsville to Sector V further to the north or were directly dropped off in Sector V by a fusion. For Earth’s forces, the second possibility is the most worrying since it means the Soulos and other fusion monsters with tricky abilities are likely being carried to other areas as well without anyone being able to track them down as of yet.
