I never thought of myself as funny. My dad told me that that when I was young, I’d constantly make unfunny jokes. He’d say, ‘I bet Zach’s going to be funny one day, because he’s practicing.’

I was shocked to find out he’s a middle child, he honestly doesn’t give middle child to me?? And I don’t think he’s talked much about his brother but he has said in an interview that his sister is a lesbian rabbi which does make perfect sense to me.
you know, i let this sit in the inbox to marinate on and yeah, i do not get middle child energy; i get youngest child energy.
I’m a middle child. My brother, Greg is three years older and my sister, Nora, is three years younger. They were wonderful growing up and today have dignified jobs that don’t involve putting on costumes. (source)
not dignified? how is this not dignified????
Zach has said in interviews that his parents just let him do whatever (with awareness), such as... you know, commute 2-hours a day to take improv classes at UCB and do shows in New York City as a 16-year-old. very latchkey kid shit. he definitely comes off as older beyond his years when he was a teen.
his older brother was the one who told him about UCB in the first place:
My brother was at Columbia University and had told me about UCB’s theater where comedians on “Saturday Night Live” performed. My brother’s description of the improv shows sounded like my jazz dreams reformulated. (source)
i'm sure it was this kind of convo with his parents: "you're staying in school." "yeah??" "if you get good grades, then you can do your improv stuff" "okay" "great, don't forget it's taco tuesday"
and that was that
