Sourcescan, handheld version in use.
Sci-Fi prototype: Sourcescan - handheld version
This prop can scan peoples brain and identify where information used for ideas/norms/believes/etc. comes from.
Ex. - Information received through resonance of the skull comes from Sonic Projector.
- Information received through eyes/ears comes from the environment.
- Information evolved in the brain represents self-made/developed connections/opinions/ideas etc.
Versions: Handheld version - for detailed use
Fixed version - for area scanning
Main function
It can determine wether people are 'manipulated' or not. Where people themselves can't tell the difference between the Sonic Projector and their imagination, this device can.
The Sourcescan - Sci-Fi Design Project
Pick your Science and Build Your World
I chose the Sonic Projector Program from the Defense Advanced Research Projects Agency.
The Sonic Projector Program has been wildly used with success – making peace, getting criminals to confess their crimes, etc. However, except the sender and receiver, no one knows exactly how/when the Sonic Projector is used – this endangers the lives and privacy of citizens.
Faith of people is misused, especially that of strong believers from any kind of religion – voices are led into their heads, making them think that God is speaking to them.
Sourcecode has been developed to check the supposed work of the Sonic Projector Program, the fourth version of the device just got released.
CGCD (Commander Global Citizen Defense) Greet, head of Global Citizen Defense, is called to the field to evaluate a problematic signal from the recently introduced sourcescan 4.0.
CGCD Greet, initial founder of sourcescan and commander of Global Defense, is called in to evaluate what this sourcecode means, and what action will be taken.
The Scientific Inflection Point
A new source of information is found. This means one of two things – there is live somewhere that literally rules our world, or God exists.
Ramifications of the Science on People
CGCD Greet goes off to the HighEye of the concerned area. She hasn’t been out in the field for years, and is excited and curious what could be so important to call her in, a breakthrough?
The HighEye of the concerned area informs CGCD Greet of the fact that the sourcescan gave source-code EXTERNAL (the expected possible sources were limited to INJECTED, IMPRINTED, and CREATED).
The initial source-code came from a regular citizen, but in the little time between the departure of CGCD Greet from headquarters and her arrival at the working dock of HighEye the amount of observations of this particular source-code has grown exponentially and still does – even notifications of this source-code come in from people with high safety clearance, like the Commander of Global Police.
CGCD Greet contacts the CoGP to ask for his recent sources, explaining him the urge of the situation, but making sure that she doesn’t mention the actual issue.
His answers confirm Greets thoughts. He doesn’t mention any special sources Greet hadn’t taken into account. This means the CoGP’s mind has been manipulated. This on it’s own wouldn’t be something to be concerned about because it happened all the time under the motto ‘Global Security.’ However, this source code had a frequency not recognized by the system, meaning – there is live somewhere outside planet earth that literally rules our world, or ‘God’ exists.
The Human Inflection Point
Greet faces an unimaginable dilemma. Making this discovery public would change the world forever. Everything would loose its meaning because everything could have been or has been led, or at least influenced, by others.
If further investigation would show proof that God does not exist, millions of people would loose their faith, their hope, or, in their eyes, even their reason for living.
If the possibility that other life navigates life on earth would become public, the resulting chaos would be incalculable.
Greet can choose not to share her findings with anyone in order to protect humanity, but if science has gotten this far, eventually someone else will make the same discovery.
What did we learn?
The fact that Greet developed the sourcescan, and so thought she could check what Global Government institutions were doing and defend and ensure the privacy of the people, only proved that mankind doesn’t have any control at all.
Sourcescan was invented to defend and ensure peoples privacy. However, how far can we go to do this? Isn't the sourcescan itself a break into people's privacy - registering where people's ideas come from?
Scientific inventions are not always useful. Knowing more doesn’t make things necessarily better. People’s obsession with controlling things can be counterproductive.
This is the basic foundation of my prop for the Sci-Fi Design Assignment.
