If you're feeling up to it could you share with us any random headcanons you have for Izaya, Namie, Shizuo and Shinra? (Doesn't have to be all of them if you don't feel like it!) More importantly, I hope you feel better soon!
yes!!! i’m pretty sure everyone knows by now that i hc namie as a lesbian struggling a lot with her identity, and a lot of novel content makes me think shinra is a bit of the same. he’s very obviously attracted to men in my opinion and kind of uses his single minded focus on celty to avoid thinking about it. there’s a lot to unravel in why he has so much trouble bonding with human beings fully (he’s not unfriendly, and he doesn’t hate them, he just doesn’t really involve himself in his relationships outside of celty). it goes beyond just attraction but i’d go as far as to say he’s probably gay and repressing the hell out of it. it’s specially visible in his relationship with izaya—there is attraction there, and it’s a big part of the reason he so specifically keeps izaya at a distance.
i think canon could stand to focus a bit more on how fucked up his education was as well. his mom left when he was very young and shingen is DEFINITELY not the kind of person who could raise a kid right.
to go back to namie: she hates carbonated drinks and is generally irritated at being being obnoxiously happy in her presence (that’s canon tho) but i like to think she gets her own recovery and development and slowly starts appreciating good company more and eventually seeking it.
i think all my hcs about shizuo fit canon pretty well. he’s so full of adorable trivia and such a good person at heart. there’s really nothing more for me to add, shizuo is perfect and i love him dearly
izaya... i have a lot of hcs about him, some of which dark enough that i never feel comfortable discussing them outside or private conversations, but, here’s a few things i like including in my fics about him:
he loves scalding hot tea and drinks it straight through his tongue literally burning
insomniac, but i’m pretty sure that’s canon too
one of those non-smokers who enjoy the smell of cigarette and never mind people smoking around them
about all of them together: i LOVE shizuo and shinra’s relationship and every bit of canon content about it really makes me happy. shizuo is one of the characters that the reader is supposed to base their own morals on, so his opinion of other characters indicates who to trust and who to be wary of. he has moments when he likes shinra and moments when he berates him, and i think that highlights shinra’s own complexity a lot. shinra obviously loves shizuo and considers him a dear friend too, and that’s so cute.
izaya and namie are my favorite platonic relationship in drrr for a lot of reasons, and mostly bc i’m absurdly fond of horrible people coming together and realizing they’ve sort of become friends. it comes out of all the time they spend together and the fact that neither of them knows how to maintain any sort of stable relationship (namie pushed all of that away in favor of obsessing grossly over her brother and izaya, well, he pretends he’s obsessed with everyone equally, but we know his real obsessions lie with only a few actual people). i think they could help each other find some peace and affection, even if they wouldn’t really push each other into being better people. it’s one of the main themes in Not Justice and i’m excited to develop them more in it!!
