Mac stumbled out of the copy room, walking past Clara’s desk and returning the now-empty bottle of liquor she’d pilfered back into its drawer. She kicked it half-heartedly as she walked away, not bothering to check if it had closed completely as she staggered to Southby’s desk. Guiltlessly commandeering the empty seat for herself, she picked up the remainder of a steak and cheese and glanced up as a looming shadow cast over her.

“Ollie,” Mac greeted cheerfully, despite the deep impressions of what looked to be folds embedded in her cheek. Her hair was a mess, but she didn’t seem aware of it as she took a bite of his sandwich. “I’ve got a rendezvous in fifteen. Wanna drive?”
