Kemp Mooney. Constructions, 58 years in Architecture and Other Comments

Kemp Mooney, the architect and the educator, is an influential part of the art and architecture scene in Atlanta and beyond. Mooney graduated from Clemson University and received his Master of Architecture from Yale University before he was 25 years old, and presented at the Venice Biennale in his early 30s. He is known for stating, “This is the hand that has shaken the hand…” of many important personalities of his time and our time (Paul Rudolph, Buckminster Fuller, Robert Venturi, Steven Holl, and Rem Koolhaas to name a few). Through his extensive studies, travels, and amazing library, he is a delightful storyteller, artist, and architect.

Mooney has influenced the life and careers of many of his students in the last 40 years. His devotion to education goes beyond preconceived parameters. If you haven’t traveled to New York with the architecture map conceived and drawn by Kemp Mooney, then you haven’t really been to New York. It is a map, and an experience, that should be patented and published.

Constructions, 58 years in Architecture and Other Comments is a retrospective of the work of Kemp Mooney so far. The exhibition will open this Wednesday, March 14th, 2012 at Southern Polytechnic State University.
