A prism can break white light up into the visible light spectrum. The visible spectrum is the portion of the electromagnetic spectrum that is visible to the human eye. I remember teaching undergraduate physic labs at @georgiastateuniversity that involved prisms and lasers. It was always a wondrous experience to produce to spectrum. I never forgot the experience.
