Three the hard way. These monotypes were first shown @cummermuseum as part of a suite of 9 prints in the “Lift: Contemporary Expressions of the African American Experience” exhibit, which was co-curated by the Cummer Museum of Art & Gardens and the Ritz Theatre & Museum @ritztheatremsm . Each monotype is titled with a line from the poem/song “ Lift Every Voice and Sing” written James Weldon Johnson and John Rosamond Johnson in 1900. These are the last three monotype prints , “Treading A Path Through” , “The Dark Past Has Taught Us” and “Out of the Gloomy Past” left from the series that are available for purchase. Wax on , wax off! A lot of hard work goes into the pull of each impression. Each student learned this during my recent weeklong residency and workshop at The Bolles School. Whether using a baren, spoon or printing press, making prints is good exercise. lol! (at The Bolles School) https://www.instagram.com/p/B8XKA-ahkXY/?igshid=wkkvtog7kbrq
Most of the time during my residency at The Bolles School, the students got at least two prints (impressions) from one image. One print mostly finished (on the right) and one to work on further (on the left). I tried to stress to the students that monotype printmaking is a great way to generate a lot of work and/ideas quickly. Come see our results this Thursday. DM for invitation.
