Hot take: at this point in our(humans) development of space and our presence in it, I firmly believe that space tourism is a waste of valuable time and resources. With only one off planet site that humans are able to reside on(the ISS) and two shuttles(the Dragon crew, and the Souyez) there is no room for people who are not working to help further our understanding of the world around us. Everyone on the ISS is up there for a reason. They all contribute, they all have science projects, they all are working and maintaining the ISS. Tourists don’t. They don’t contribute anything other than money, and at this turning point in space travel I don’t think that a reliance on tourists is necessary. Basically, tourists would just take up space and important things would have to be shuffled around when tourists are going up and down, and make sure that there’s enough space for them on the ISS, or wait until the Dragon makes the, likely fairly long, trip around the moon and back.
Space should be restricted to those that are up there for a purpose. Tourism isn’t a purpose, it contributes nothing scientifically and even less in upkeep and repairs to the ISS. As amazing as the idea sounds, at this point in the game I feel as though it’s wasteful and stupid. When more shuttles are built and approved and more stations are built in orbit, around earth or the moon, then I will gladly accept the idea of space tourism. Until then it’s not worth it
