When children in the townships of Soweto hang out at the playground they use it as an open, free-thinking place where they come together to relieve the tensions of everyday life. The playground is a place where they share their stories through creative games and fun, while at the same time they learn skills to survive in the street.In Soweto in the 1950s, commuters developed a dance style known as ‘isparapara’ inspired by their jumping on and off of moving trains. This was mixed with tap dance and later became known as Pantsula.

More than a dance, Pantsula is a lifestyle. Influences can be seen in jazz, breaking, popping, house and bone breaking.This is a rare opportunity to see Pantsula from some of South Africa’s leading practitioners in their first ever UK performance!
