i have nothing intelligent to say other than as every day passes i become convinced i cam down with a fever on election night and none of this is real. also i can't wait for jezza belongs-in-the-bin to try and force the parliamentary whip on trident and fail, if he's even going to do that, i don't think i've heard a single coherent plan in almost six weeks

See, I was going to reply to this with something soothing, about how the moderates would at least persuade him to be sensible considering that he’s in bloody charge?? (Seriously, as someone on twitter pointed out, if the tories said they opposed capital punishment, and then Hamface joined the bring back hanging Campaign, would that be seen as a random rebellion or a dangerous direction of travel by the public? would the general public say ‘it’s ok, it’s only cameron that holds that view, the tories are still opposed?’ No.)

But then I opened twitter and I heard the Seumas Milne thing. Seumas Milne. Not just in charge of comms, but STRATEGY, too. Seumas fucking Milne. Genocide denying, fascist apologist, historical revisionist, moral relativist Milne. And now I’m going to join you in the fever corner. This. Cannot. Be Happening.

I’m going to wake up soon, a 115-year old party cannot just eat itself like this on the whims of one bearded racist fluffer. We’ll all wake up and find it was a shared delusion, and it’s back to the days of Ed Miliband in opposition again when the worst nightmare we faced was pork-based sandwich options.

have you read john o'farrell's 'things can only get better' because it's making me feel so much better rn? (i feel like i got this from a tumblr labour blog and if it was yours i apologise lol) it's about how useless the party was in the 80s and wouldn't deal with reality and was obsessed with fighting itself and ideological purity and it's pretty much a blueprint of what's happening now, and he's really scathing about it and it makes me feel less like i'm going slowly insane

Ooh no, I haven’t, thanks for the rec - I actually picked up his ‘Utterly Exasperated History of Modern Britain: or Sixty Years of Making the Same Stupid Mistakes as Always’  in a sale, and I absolutely love how sardonic that is (with some really poignant bits), 10/10 would recommend. So I’m definitely going to check it out because I think I’d cling to anything right now, politics is just so depressing. And well, tiring. (I don’t know if you saw Daily Politics today but I just…zoned out. I couldn’t even muster up the energy to actually get properly mad? Both sides are being stupid and/or selfish, and all I could do was roll my eyes out of fatigue. I’m just so tired of all the ridiculousness. And there’s still five years to go of this, it doesn’t bode well?)

Actually on that note - since we do seem to be repeating the 80s over again, down to the politics and even the appropriate royal weddings - how do you think the advent of social media and the 24hr news cycle is going to change things? Will we go through the old blueprint a lot quicker and renew earlier? Or will the damage be more devastating, because social media never lets attacks die? If I was an unaffected third person, it would be fascinating to observe the next five years from a historian’s perspective. Unfortunately, I live here -_-

that’s true and he talked at length about that today - and was interrupted several times by very well-deserved rounds of applause - but that was something that was clearly a very personal cause, close to his heart, he was fighting for the people against the establishment - I’m just not sure if he can apply that steel to everything whether it’s opposing the Tories, keeping his own party in line and united (and ofc whoever wins will have a hell of a time doing that!), dealing with sustained personal attacks from the media (hopefully it won’t be as bad as what they did to Ed Miliband or Neil Kinnock). On the other hand, he killed it as Shadow Health Sec and beat the shit out of Lansley so maybe (hopefully) he could do the same outside his NHS comfort zone and effectively challenge the government in all policy areas as leader. I guess we won’t know till we’ve tried it, eh?

Ha did he? He was super nice about all his rivals today, especially Corbyn - even though the chair accidentally referred to him as ‘Jeremy’ a bunch of times, which was pretty awkward. 

this was so much easier in 2010, man. I was 100% behind Ed Miliband 5eva and always but ever since he left me I’ve just been aimlessly drifting...

your Ideal Looks are amazing Ideal Looks and also my Ideal Looks. i haven’t watched comedy vehicle yet (i’m making my way through chronologically) but i looked up his hair in s1 and wow yes amazing, definitely in the top stewart lee hairs of all time. tough competition from this look though which might be my Most Ideal Look Ever

hi hello talk 2 me about the amazing gender and sexuality politics of fist of fun (which are, btw, continued over into this morning with richard not judy)

i’m only on the second ep of tmwrnj so i can’t really talk about that except for richard herring still insisting that he and stewart lee need some sort of ~sexual chemistry to boost ratings (i also feel like i won’t do a good job at talking about this in general bc i watch and it’s like ‘look at his little face; it’s almost as if he understands’ but anyway)

some Best Moments:

the bit i made a post about where they genuinely get the difference between a woman not wanting to date you, personally, and a vast misandrist conspiracy against all men. this stuff was written literally twenty years ago and they understood it then while there are men now who don’t understand that distinction

the other bit from series one where richard’s talking about what women want in a man and stewart tells him that what women seem to want (in richard at least) is someone else, because, again, there are men who don’t get that! that sometimes a woman just won’t be attracted to you and that’s fine!!!

the way they deconstruct the false differences they have to maintain to be a successful comedy double act, even down to their sexualities

calling out the ridiculous sexism of the angel/whore dichotomy (in like the first ep of tmwrnj)

also in tmwrnj that woman who says she's a lesbian to be ~ironic and showing how ridiculous that is

in the first ep of fist of fun where richard goes to that dating service and they're like 'no woman has the same interests as you ever' so they bring in a man and he's just like... yeah alright (also is that rebecca front in that sketch?)

which actually leads into that bit in point 2 where richard's like WHAT IS IT THAT WOMEN WANT and stewart's like i think in your case what women want is someone else

also they appear full naked in flower crowns in the first ep of fist of fun. i'm not sure how this is relevant but i feel like i should mention it anyway

anyway this could be rubbish but... at least there'll always be milk
