“And ha-… um,” Josiah falters, stomach flipping. He doesn’t want to ask. He doesn’t want to know. “Have you used it on me?”
Cass is quiet for a long time, staring at the ground, at the tear in his jeans at the knee. He clears his throat. It’s weird, seeing him sober for once.
“No,” he says. His voice is husked. Maybe with everything he isn’t saying. “No. I haven’t. I wouldn’t”
Josiah nods, exhaling a heavy breath, tries to squash the thought of he’s lying, he’s lying, he’s lying. Cass always, always, lies.
