really getting to me that it was frodo who clung to sam on the side of mount doom. because the entire time it was sam grabbing frodo, pulling him up and clutching his hand. sam was the one to ground frodo and bring him back. but in the last moment when frodo is finally released from the hold the ring has and all the memories of life come back to him, he holds onto sam. probably because he was getting blinded by power and evil but his eyes cleared and there was sam. sam had always been there but frodo can finally hold him now, pay back the debt.

frodos hands are free of the burden of the ring and the first thing he grabs onto is sam. the first thing he clings to is his sam.
