FUCK GMOD!
I'm trying to play spacebuild in Gmod, and every fucking time i make any progress in building my ship the fucking game closes's for no fucking reason!
I swear if it does it again i'm going to throw my laptop across the room!
Some green 'n' crystal
The last week I've been working on completing the migration from the round planets to the square ones. I've finished it apart from a few minor bugs that seem to appear at random. You can once again build the buildings to the world, trees and crystal deposits have appeared again.

The next big thing that's going to change is the shape of the planet. Again. We're going back to a round setting! But not in the same way as it was before, which was a "smooth round" but more like the following picture will illustrate:

Erki felt that the planet was a bit too round and could be prettier with a "round-yet-blocky" approach. I'll post a new post once that is fixed and ready to be demonstrated.
We're coming back!
Hello, it's been a while.
Good news for everyone still following this project; we're getting back into the development. We did develop a 3D game engine for a while after freezing this project, but I noticed the growing interest for this project and decided that it was time to get back on board and deliver this thing to the finish line before starting anything new. One major change to the gameplay and game engine is underway. The main reason why I specifically lost interest to the project was the massively difficult system that I was implementing, which was a laser to flatten the round surface of the planet. Textures wouldn't split if a piece of the planet had more than 4 corners and whatnot.
We're changing that. We're going from round planets to square-like planets. This makes digging much easier, as with round planets, digging near the core would yield only very small pieces off of the planet itself. This way, every block is the same size. Not only that, but there is no longer need for a laser to cut off pieces of a round surface to flatten it, because well... the planet is a box essentially. You don't have to hassle around with none of that stuff anymore, you can just go and build your stuff where ever you want.
Another issue that was raised internally before the freeze was the metagame issue. Is there enough content to keep players interested?
The original idea was to have a vast, ever expanding universe that would generate random content as you explore it. Random species, random ores, random size planets with random caves and whatnot. But the issue was raised that this may not be interesting enough. And we want to address that. I can't yet say what it'll be, or when it'll be, simply because I don't know myself yet either, but it'll surely be something! Some kind of a goal for the player(s) to achieve.
The development process may, and will be, slowed down a bit from the pace we kept before, simply because everyone, including I, have daytime jobs now, so we can't slander around our houses in underwear typing code all day long anymore. But the project will be continued whenever there's time for it.
Accidents in the lab
Hey, a quick update why there isn't an update today. The game progress is coming along fine, I've nearly perfected the laser cutting and all the issues that came with it. (There was a lot of them). But there's been a streak of accidents in my house. First, my secondary monitor started acting up. It took around 15 minutes to start up and be functional from the point when I pressed the power button. Recently it stopped functioning entirely. And now today, Kitkat's laptop did something weird. All of a sudden, there was a bright flash, a SNAP sound and soon after a very distinct smell of burning electronics and it wouldn't boot up anymore. I've been dealing with the second issue the whole day today nearly, trying to figure out where is the fault and what is she going to work with now.
Menu system in-game!
Hey, the past 2 days I've been furiously working on bringing a menu-system into the game, and now it is here. Main Menu
Single player character selection Single player world selection
It is nothing fancy, but it gets the job done. Multiplayer menu hasn't been added to the system yet. But will be soon. This of course allows 2 new things that weren't possible before. 1) Multiple characters. Before the characters were, believe it or not, map-tied. No names or anything. Now it is possible to identify players by their names, which helps with the netcode as well as general fluency of the network game process. 2) Multiple maps. I built the initial save-load system on the idea that there is only one map. Do not ask me why, but that's what happened.
