#DrawingPride for the month of June! Day 25: #Empowered Sally Ride was the first American woman to go to space. She spent over 300 hours orbiting the earth, and was the first person to use a robot arm for satellite recovery. She devoted her life to science and discovery. She was very private about her personal life, but after she passed, a lifelong relationship with Tam O'Shaughnessy was brought to light. They had been partnered for almost 30 years and had known one another even longer. I don't consider it a knock against her character that she never came out publicly. But, what a powerful thing it would have been - if all of us who were inspired by her courage and intelligence over the years could have also known that she was queer.
