Rossi Back on Serie A Scoresheet. First Strike For Tumminello Since ACL Surgery.
6-May-2018
Lazio-Atalanta 1-1
Lazio youth product, Murgia, started again in place of the injured Parolo; picking up a yellow for a tackle on fellow young midfielder, Cristante. The latter having the better afternoon out of the 2.
SPAL-Benevento 2-0
Paloschi and Antenucci (from the spot) scored to give SPAL a crucial win in the race for Serie A residency next season. Under 21 international Grassi and Mattiello also featured from the start.
For Benevento, youngsters Cataldi and Brignola were both out; suspended.
Chievo-Crotone 2-1
Former Italian international Giaccherini played out the 90 minutes in this vital win which lifts Chievo out of the relegation zone.
First team regular Mandragora played a full game for the Pitagorici, while young Great to see Roma loanee Tumminello come off the bench late in the game after a knee ligament injury kept him out for most of the season. The 19 year old scored his 2nd Serie A goal from close range deep into injury time.
Genoa-Fiorentina 2-3
There was a rare start for Pepito Rossi who missed a header from close range in the first half. He later repaid the faith in him by scoring his first Serie A goal after 4 years. One of the most talented and unluckiest of players, he’s endured a string of serious knee injuries and operations. Shortly after, coach Ballardini replaced Rossi with another goalscorer with Lapadula putting the Grifoni ahead within seconds of coming on. Perin made some fine saves throughout the game, but couldn’t do much for the 3 goals conceded. Biraschi and Bertolacci both played out the entirety of the game.
Benassi had anticipated Perin to put La Viola ahead for his 5th of the season. Saponara featured from the start before making way after just over an hour. Chiesa picked up a yellow, but put in a usual lively performance. Sportiello completely not at fault for Genoa’s 2 goals.
Napoli-Torino 2-2
Insigne and Jorginho both played in a disappointing game for Napoli which virtually hands the title to Juventus.
Baselli’s first touch shot took a deflection to temporarily tied the game at 1-1. Sirigu’s fine form could do little to prevent Napoli’s 2 goals; his teammate Burdisso certainly made life hard for him with an error that gifted Mertens the opening goal. Good to see Mazzarri (not known for his faith in young players) deploying Kevin Bonifazi in defence, even if it was in the absence of Moretti and Lyanco. Belotti’s difficult season continues as he was dropped from the starting 11. He featured for the last 30 minutes and he’ll be looking forward to next season where he’ll hopefully live up to his enormous potential. Toro president Urbano Cairo said he will be counting on Mazzarri and Belotti to stay and kickstart their fortunes next season.
