Standing in Another Man's Grave by Ian Rankin Released this week, Rankin brings Rebus is back for one more case. This time he's not an Inspector, but a civilian consultant whose interest in several cold cases brings him into contact with Rankin's post-Rebus creation, Malcolm Fox, and, of course, stirs up all sorts of trouble as well. It's on my list of must reads.

In an emergency situation, communication is one of the most important things and when your phone battery fails, this one could save your life.

Shown at CES this year, SpareOne have released a phone which can run on a single AA battery for 15 years.

The phone has up to 10hrs talk time, all from a single AA battery. The device will work even without a sim for reaching emergency services. You can insert your own sim card into the phone also should your current phone run out of battery.

The SpareOne is supplied in a waterproof, submersible and floatable bag. It is also temperature resistant meaning that the phone is ready to survive with you.

The phone packs a single LED which can be used as a torch should the lights go out. The phone will also auto respond to any SMS's received informing the user to call due to the SpareOne not having a visual display.

You are also able to pre-program nine numbers onto the phone because to be honest, I hardly know anybodies phone number these days.

Like anything, you always think you'll never need it but for $99 this SpareOne could literally be a life saver.

Con la llegada de los móviles con 3G nos hemos olvidado de lo que era tener batería durante tres días seguidos sin necesidad de cargar el teléfono.  Esto hace que en ocasiones en las que el móvil es vital, la batería no siempre esté disponible. Para esas situaciones llegó Spare One.

Se trata de un teléfono que lleva una pila doble AA en su interior. Con esto se consigue que pueda durar cargado 15 años en reposo. En uso puede aguantar hasta 10 horas de conversación. Como podéis ver no tiene pantalla, no permite enviar sms... y por tanto fue creado para ser usado como un teléfono de emergencia.

Funciona con tarjeta SIM, pero para llamar al 112, teléfono de emergencia no es necesaria. Para las llamadas de urgencia dispone de un botón central identificado con la señal de emergencia.
