"Defend! Protect! Deflect Reflect! ...Mirror coat?" Over and over Kaos attempted different defensive spells and gestures, reading every word on every page of the defensive spell book princess Twilight Sparkle had lent her. She couldn't check out the book forever, but Kaos was no closer to casting a shield spell than before she started.
Kaos closed the book and lay on her back, petting one of the many cats that roamed her home. "What's going wrong, Din?" she asked the small, purring ocelot. "Defensive magic should be as natural to me as pyromancy. I even got the hang of healing magic and that's waaaay out of my territory! How can I better protect my friends if I-oh!" Kaos sat up suddenly, startling the wild cat and causing him to dig his claws into his owner, which Kaos ignored.
"That's it! The spells won't work for me because I'm trying to protect myself! Even if I was in danger I doubt a single one of those spells would work, not on me. I have no desire myself, but if a friend was in trouble, my intent would focus the magic and it would work! I'm sure it would! But...how am I gonna test that theory? This isn't like the healing spell before, Din. Giving someone a little knick and hoping to heal it is different from putting someone in a situation dangerous enough to require a shield I'm not positive would form...Any ideas?"
"Mrrrrrrrr?"
"It's worth a shot..."
