Today marks another day of challenges and solutions. It was discovered that the fuse was damaged and due to this another malfunction occured, one of the tires didn't work. Fortunately everything was resolved and fixed, thanks to our hardworking and dedicated future engineers. We successfully made the robot run and the circuit board and wirings were done. This day ended with beaming smiles on our faces as we stare at our robot now zapping its way to the top. A new spark of hope has been lit up in us as we keep the light of Archillumina gleaming.

just want to share an article that touched me in more ways than one... hoping that this blog can somehow start an action and then later on elicit a change... I'm not rich, I'm just an average-earning employee in a company who struggle to get through a day using my not so big salary so I think, this is the only contribution I can give... to pass the information on... this is an article made by Ms. Gina Lopez. it simply states the dreams, plans, and aspirations she has for the people in Calawan... Bringing light and making dreams come true - together FROM THE HEART By Gina Lopez Updated June 21, 2009 12:00 AM Home sweet home: One week ago we started the relocation of families from Estero de Paco to Calawan. This is one of the new houses in Calawan. Bringing light must be one of the most fulfilling activities one can engage in. To be offered an opportunity to make life better for others is a blessing and a gift. One week ago we started the relocation of families from Estero de Paco to Calawan. I was aghast to hear the stories of the first 10. They lived in a 20-square-meter area. Fifty-five of them! They slept in shifts! And the ceiling was so low that they couldn’t stand straight. One of the families had to crawl to enter — and she cried tears of joy to finally have a dwelling where she could stand up straight. They have been living like this for decades. Their children were born in such dwellings, located on open sewers.I worried about the challenges that would face us as we strived to facilitate ideal communities in Bayanijuan sites. What would it be like dealing with people who have lived in such depravity? So I was pleasantly buoyed when I went to Calawan today to find out that they were working hard to clean the place. I was even more pleasantly surprised to see that they had fixed small gardens in front of their houses! And that some of the families had started growing their own food. My staff has had no problems dealing with them. By the time this article comes out, we will have relocated another 20 families. And by the end of July, a total of 200. By December our target is 1,000. This is possible because Globe Asiatique is donating building material to finish the 800 unfinished houses that have been there for almost a decade. Boysen has admirably offered paint for 4,000 houses! Bayanijuan in Calauan is a great example of private sector and government partnership. I have a very good working relationship with the NHA and Mayor Buenafrido Berris of Calauan. Manila Water has been outstanding, offering to put up central sewage and artificial wetlands for the waste water systems. The Ayala Group is helping with the overall plans. Habitats for Humanity is supervising the construction pro bono. Grace Eleazar designed the model unit; it never fails to make their jaws drop in awe and bring light to their hearts.Chito Macapagal of Unilever has given each family a sack of rice to tide them over this month. Then they start having training so that they can find jobs. For the orientation of each family, as they arrive, they will be given family hygiene packs by Unilever — which means soap, toothbrushes, toothpaste, shampoo. Nestlé is giving grocery packs for 100 families. What can I say? Of course this country has a future! They will be guided in hygiene and nutrition. Marian Alonzo who was the medical director of The Farm, which was chosen as the best medical spa in Asia for two years running, has agreed to head the medical team in Calawan. I love her ideas! We are going to work on preventive care. We are even planning to bring a hilot onsite. The situation is challenging. Their immune systems are so out of sync. Already, one baby was taken to the hospital. And the other three-month-old baby I saw was far too small — and had scabies. I see a great future for them as I am determined to give them the very best education, excellent medical care. But dreams are heights to which we aspire. Right now, they have come to the site with nothing — almost literally. I need help. Lots of it. I will take whatever you can offer. While my objectives are lofty, we’ve got to start with the basics. If you look around your house, or your office, I am sure you will find some of these things. • Something they can sleep on. This means mattresses, banigs or even big empty boxes or tarpoulin. Blankets and bed sheets, too. • Bamboo/scrap wood/coco lumber, etc. for making bed frames/papag, tables/partitions. With donations of building tools, they can work and make their own furniture. • Garden tools and seeds so they can make the place beautiful. • Kitchen utensils so they can cook well for their families — and even learn to do it as a business. • Music is part of the lifeblood of Filipinos. Guitars, drums, anything to bring music and art to their lives, is welcome. • Pails, basins, mosquito nets. • Even old calendars with beautiful pictures. You can frame them and each house can have one or two of these beautiful pictures. Preferably something inspirational. • Books, magazines, reading material. I want to put up a library, and even give adult education classes. I want the library to be really nice. Comfortable. Well-decorated. An upscale library where children and adults will be inspired to read. • Toys, educational toys, sports equipment, such as volleyballs, basketballs. The area is big. so they can engage in baseball, track and field, Frisbee. Their lives will never be the same again. Who knows? We might come up with some really gifted athletes here — as long as they get their health back on track. • First aid kits, flashlights. • Multivitamins and vitamin C. I worry about their health. I guess it’s normal that they look so sickly, having lived in such adverse situations. I would get the biggest kick seeing them rosy and in the pink of health. It will be like a miracle unfolding. And you can help! • Towels, slippers, hairbrushes, mirrors, cabinets, shelves, etc. I was so pleased today to find out that Victoria Court has donated 50 bed sheets and pillowcases — wow! The residents will probably feel like they are dreaming. I dream of a country without corruption, where light and love exist. And I have been told these dreams are not possible in the Philippines. Well, in Calauan where we will resettle the relocatees from the Pasig River, I have every intention to make these dreams come true. And I know that my dreams are your dreams, too. And the only way dreams can come true is if people work together. And if we are able to facilitate a community where integrity and joy reigns among people who before had nothing but despair — we are sending out a very strong message. It can be done. And we can do it together. The temperament of Filipinos is specifically suited to working together. There is something uniquely special about the way we can feel for each other. And that’s why my optimism continues to escalate unabated. Noble dreams are meant to come true. Let’s work together so that the potential of our people can surface. And then let’s weave together a tapestry of dreams coming true, of service par excellence — and what will happen is a transformation of our collective psyche. From Bicol to Puerto Princesa to Bukidnon to Sagada — there are inspirational stories. Walang iwanan sa Bayanijuan. * * * All donations can be sent to the ABS-CBN Foundation at Lopez Drive, Mother Ignacia Street. Whatever is given will be utilized to the maximum. Habitats for Humanity is building for us loftable houses at P63,000. We are adding P10,000 for electric and water connections and request an additional P7,000 for administration. For P80,000 per family we will usher in a new dawn. The future is ours for the taking. --see what i mean? perhaps there's still hope for us after all... So please whatever help you may want to extend to us, PM me or just leave a message here then I can send the email addresses of those you may get in touch to for the donations...^_^--
