Persuasive Speech
Did you all reach that point of the semester where all you want to do is to drop everything: your baggage, your acads, your workloads, your daily struggles, and just go somewhere and explore? I, for one, have already reached that point, but sadly, I can’t just drop them off. But hey, fear not, you can actually just travel. Take a break, you deserve it. Now, instead of travelling to the other side of the globe or any parts near there, why not travel and explore the wonders of the places near you? Why not choose local tourism over international tourism?
Local tourism is tourism involving residents of one country traveling only within that country. According to Rappler, our country’s tourism performance is improving. Of course, as we rise and flourish, this would naturally demand for better services such as established tourism enterprise zones, built airports and seaports, improved public services, and among many others. We can contribute in the further development of our tourism industry by choosing our domestic tourism spots.
There are a lot of benefits in choosing local tourism.
We should choose local tourism because it boosts our economy. According to Dejaresco, III, “Department of Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez claims that the country generated a tourism–related income of US$ 5 billion from foreign tourists and P1 trillion from domestic visitors in 2014.” (Dejaresco, III, 2015). Upon seeing these large sums of income, domestic tourism can also contribute a lot in the economy of our country, and is actually a massive stockholder in our country.
A boost in economy can also mean an open door for employment opportunities. We should choose local tourism because it provides more employment opportunities. According to Dejaresco, III, 2015, “tourism directly employs 4.9 million Filipinos representing about 11% of the total work force … and this makes tourism as the fifth largest employer industry.” (Dejaresco, III, 2015). It’s like hitting two birds with one stone. Economy and employment, if the other rise, the other also rises, and that could mean positive change.
We should choose local tourism because it gives rise to our reputation. Reports from the Department of Tourism states that our “country ranked 74th in the 2015 World Economic Forum Tourism Competitiveness report, jumping 20 spots up from its 94th rank in 2011 since the It’s More Fun in the Philippines campaign was launched.” (Department of Tourism, 2015). Not only it would attract more foreign visitors, but it could also be a chance for foreign businesses to take a look and invest in our country, and that would mean a definite rise in our economy.
Look at Palawan. An article from Business Mirror stated that Palawan has allocated at least P7 billion for various infrastructure and livelihood-development projects to draw more foreign investments and boost the province’s standing as a prime tourist destination.
Imagine this happening to every place in our country.
To sum it up, we should choose local tourism because one, it boosts our economy, second, it provides more employment opportunities, third, it gives rise to our reputation.
Before I go, I am going to leave you a quotation that would help you kickstart your adventures. “Don’t be a tourist, be a traveler.” Thank you and have a good day.
