I cried whilst watching this video of a student who has a stammer. I didn't cry because of the boy but because i could relate to it. I had a serious stammer when i was a boy in primary school. That made me timid and never allowed me to speak what was on my mind, i couldn't even answer questions in class. I got my stammer from my dad and most of my siblings on my dad's side stammer.
Unlike this boy, i had no one to help me, not even my own mother. The only help she gave me was to spank me if i kept so long in uttering a word. Not even my teachers took a minute to ask any question about it, if i wasted their time with my speech, they would just move on.
But i have managed to fight it and even though it happens when i am tensed, shy or under-pressure, it is not as serious as those days. Those day in school.
I really pray that people who stammer get the necessary help because overcoming this is very easy. Teachers in Ghana should go beyond teaching what is in textbooks.
