I've frequently said that we need to quit acting like our target audience is made up of people with doctoral degrees.
Use wording that most people understand. And talk about issues that most people outside of your bubble can relate to.
And if you aren't sure what people are truly concerned about, do more listening to what they say when not being prompted. Doing more listening than talking is not just nice, it is essential politics.
Getting a feel for the electorate is a must for any successful campaign.
The whole point of elections is to gain power. You don't obtain that power by talking over the heads of voters or by sounding like you're obsessed with stuff they care little about.
