ok so i saw the theron x fallon thing and i just HAVE to ask... what are their reactions to people shipping them? most importantly, how does our nephilim squad (leon, cressy, cy) feel about it? please i’m dying of laughter

Theron teases Fallon about it. Leon is chill and low key supportive, he basically sees Cressy and Cyrus as siblings already.

Fallon/Cressy/Cyrus are uncomfortable, since Niobe is still alive (not that anyone knows this).

Did you know there are people that keep magazine covers he was on?! And not only the ones from thirty years ago—no, I had to see someone online ask if anyone had a copy of NMC Monthly from three months ago because ‘Speaker Dalton was on the cover and that man could—’”

“Not that I don’t find it fascinating to hear what strangers on the internet want to do to your dad,” cuts in Cressida, “but I’m surprised you’re not more put off by the Eliana stans on Twitter.”

Leon goes very still. “...The what.”

“There are a dozen or so fan blogs on Tumblr last I checked. She became super popular a few months ago with a subset of teens and twenty-somethings. They call themselves—”

“I DON’T WANT TO KNOW WHAT THEY CALL THEMSELVES!”

And then he storms out of the room. The twins exchange a look. 

“...How long is he going to be on this?” Cyrus asks finally. 

"...Well, he already has a bit of a complex,” Cressida admits. "On second thought, it was probably a really bad idea to bring up Eliana’s fans.” “You think?” asks Cyrus flatly. Neither of them says anything for a while. “...Are you planning on being the good friend or do I have to?”

“Well, he was bound to find out eventually,” Cressida grumbles, pulling up Instagram on her phone and going to the create a new account section. “Oh, what do you know, LeonDalton4Life is free. I’ll send you the password.”

Theron groans, letting his head fall on the table next to his laptop. “What are you at?”

“Twenty six,” says Fallon, not looking up. 

“Dude, shut up you were at twenty two twelve minutes ago—”

“Twenty seven.”

“How are you typing so fast?!”

“I allocated thirty minutes to applications for today, and I intend to make the most of it—Stop hitting your head on the table, you’re going to damage it, and you know some Conti brat would complain that this place has gone to the street rats.”

Theron makes a face, before propping his head on his hand instead. “Like they don’t already say that on Dear Delacroix?”

Fallon snorts. “If that’s the moderated content, I can’t imagine what they’re screening out.”

Theron bristles. “You know, I was scheduled for a coffee chat with Congressman Anderson and his grandson showed up, demanding I take his coat and screaming for ten minutes all the way through the coffee chat time—”

“You’ve told me this story ten times.”

“Well, it doesn’t get any less ridiculous each time! I don’t get it, these people think they’re Asteria’s gift to the world and the rest of us exist for the sole purpose of—”

“Stop stalling,” Fallon reminds him. “You told me you have another talk tonight with DHS.”

Theron groans. “Ugh, do you think I can just beg Congressman Anderson for an internship?”

Fallon considers him seriously. “Well, you do have a pretty face when you’re not smashing it on the table.”

“...Screw you.”

Hi~ I wasn't paying much attention about the politics in book 1 and the demo so when it came to picking sides I was completely lost. Can you tell us more about the candidates and their beliefs and such? Thank you!

As a basic overview, supernatural America has a congress, three secretaries leading the executive branch, and an independent judiciary. In Congress, there’s a two party system, with a traditionally cambion and traditionally nephilim party. In the executive branch, these are effectively represented by the Cambion and Nephilim Secretaries respectively. The Nymph Secretary can side with either faction, remain apolitical, or side with neither but still be a political force; Secretary Celosia does the latter.

For some extra detail that hasn’t yet been brought up in book two: the nephilim and cambion sects aren’t totally accurate; rather politics in supernatural America are defined along two axes—social values and magic restrictions. 

Regarding social values, nephilim party candidates generally support increased integration of human already in supernatural society and keeping other humans away from supernatural society, increased regulations on hunter licensing, expanding programs to target unlicensed hunters, monsters, and rogues, etc. Cambion party candidates generally support freer interactions with humans, fewer regulations on hunter licensing, cutting programs to target unlicensed hunters, monsters, and rogues, etc.

Regarding magic restrictions, pro-magic restriction sects want to restrict the use of control magic, celestial magic, and other powerful/dangerous magic. Anti-magic restriction sects want to lessen restrictions. 

The parties are defined based on social values but both have pro and anti magic restriction factions. Because of this, you’ll occasionally find nephilim party politicians whose actual views align more with cambion party politicians’, and vice versa, if they prioritize restrictions more than social values. 

In Congress, the nephilim pro-restriction sect that was formerly known as the Delacroix coalition is currently led by Theron Dalton, and is backed by the nephilim anti-restriction coalition led by Deirdre Castella’s nephew (it’s widely speculated by those in the know that he’s a figurehead and she’s really pulling the strings). The nephilim party has the majority in Congress, and within that, Dalton’s group has a majority of nephilim seats.

The cambion party in Congress is officially led by Davina’s mother (who is pro-restriction) but the majority of members are from the anti-restriction group led by Reyna’s grandfather. (The scandal involving Reyna was enough to keep him from winning the Minority Leader election, but not enough to get him out of office entirely.)

The Nephilim and Cambion Secretaries both support their parties’ social values, but are generally careful to remain moderate with regard to magic restrictions. 

The SAVIOR Act is a nephilim social values bill that appeals to the pro-restriction cambions by broadening rogue definitions and anti-restriction nephilim by increasing protective measures supernatural can use when targeted by hunters. 

Which is all to say, politics in NMC is a mess and the artifact thefts were a huge PR nightmare for the cambion party.

At this point im of firm belief that NMC parents (especially nephilim) need to take classes on parenthood or stop having children. If everyone just grew up in a happy home there’d be so much less drama-
