I would love for the SpeakUp 5k to be swarmed, utterly swarmed, by other people inspired by this young woman. Cameron Gallagher is one of my new HEROES. As in someone who will inspire me for years to come. If you have dealt with depression, no matter what degree or for how long, or if you are close to someone who has, you are probably aware of the surprisingly intense grip it can take over the lives and minds of the people who face it every day. It’s a discouraging, tough monster to grapple with for anyone, but to face it at age sixteen—an already tumultuous time of life when, honestly, most of us are not at our best—to face it and to be widely acknowledged by your peers as a person who consistently uplifts others and gives them encouragement—that is nothing short of heroic.
