People always reduced everything Jasper did in MW to being about Maya and how he was only trying to impress a girl but that always pissed me off because??? he was trying to save his friends and Maya was willing to help him?? he literally spent all his time and energy in MW trying to save Monty and all of his people like why does everyone always act like he spent the entire time flirting with Maya no

Reductivism is a common problem with fandom in general, I’m just not sure why it seems to fall so hard upon Jasper.  Like, are people really that mad at him for a few casually misogynistic comments he made in the first season?  Because I would like to remind these people that first season Bellamy Blake was a grown-ass 23 year-old man sleeping with multiple underage teenage girls on a regular basis.  None of these people were perfect, especially at the beginning.  Who they were then is not who they are now.

Jasper hardly spent any time flirting with Maya after The Conspiracy was revealed. Once Maya exposed Mount Weather for what it really was, Jasper and his crew spent basically every waking minute trying to find a way to escape or get a message out without tipping their hand.  That kind of fine-line walking takes a lot of mental effort, and doesn’t leave one with the time, energy, or proper mood for much romance.  That’s one of the main things I admire about this show; yes, there is romance, but they save it for when it’s appropriate.  When characters are in life-or-death situations, that shit is set to the side where it belongs so that everyone can get down to business.

Jasper and Maya had the beginnings of a cute little romance, but once shit got real, their relationship evolved into exactly what I think Clarke and Bellamy have; a deep trust and respect born out of seeing each other through multiple life-or-death situations, from seeing the strength of heart and dedication that lies underneath the surface.  Jasper had a crush on Maya, the cute, sweet girl from Mount Weather.  Maya had a crush on Jasper, the adorable, funny boy who fell from space.

But Jasper fell in love with Maya Vie, the subversive, steel-nerved revolutionary of the Mount Weather Blood Resistance.  And Maya fell in love with Jasper Jordan, the blood, sweat, and tear-stained Hero of the Sky People.

Oh MYGOD okay so I promise I meant to reply to this ages and ages ago but I never did because I am trash and I forgot and it’s just been sitting in my inbox but anywaysI dont know that it really fits with canon, but for some reason I’m really into the idea that people on the ark don’t really touch?? Like family members do, sometimes, but there isn’t as much casual touching, something to do with stopping sickness from spreading or something idk. Anyways, it’s not a spoken rule or anything but basically the only people who touch are parent and child or people in relationships, and even then it’s rare, and generally in private.Then we’ve got these fucking nerds. These stupid childhood best friends who’ve grown up never being more than a few feet away from each other, never out of arms reach. Jasper will put his hand on the small of Monty’s back when he walks behind him, Monty will slap Jasper’s arm when he wants to tell him something. They realize in their early teens that people think it’s weird, so they try to keep the touching in public to a minimum (hence the self-five thing), but instead of actually cutting down on touching it just makes them more subtle about it. They’ll brush their pinkies together when one of them hands the other something, they’ll sit thigh to thigh in the dining hall, and if they’re feeling really brave, they’ll “accidentally” bump the back of their hands together when they’re walking side by side.After six months in the sky box though, six months in which they couldn’t touch at all, it didn’t take long for them to make the decision that the no touching rule was dumb and if anyone minded then they were dumb too.

More Season 3 hopes

♣ The last time Jasper saw Murphy was when Murphy was running off after holding him hostage. I want at least a tiny scene when they’re reuinted. They’ve both changed a lot and maybe Jasper’s wary but maybe they’re both different enough to now have some sort of grudging respect. Or maybe they now need more screen time together because my beta made me ship them. (!); and ♣ I’d like a small but noticeable time jump. So that everyone can breathe for five minutes. Although Rothenburg has said that this Season will be about City of Light so perhaps Camp Jaha will be mostly resting(?). Ha, like Camp Jaha was resting when the focus was on Mt. Weather. Lol. - I can dream.

neither of them really collects rocks, but after a rainy day at the old camp when they each made a pet rock in their tent, it’s become kind of a competition to see who can make the most interesting one. the result? a massive pile of rocks with eyes in the corner. everyone else wishes that had such an effective way of making sure their tents don’t fly away in the wind.

takes pictures of the other while they’re asleep

monty, for sure. jasper falls asleep in the weirdest places and he makes the most ridiculous faces. there’d be no way for jasper to truly understand how dumb he looks if not for monty’s documentation.

gets drunk and breaks shit

jasper. without a doubt. he’s not an angry drunk or anything, but he is a clumsy drunk. and a curious one. he gets ideas about how they could improve monty’s still and, with his reduced hand-eye coordination, things often go to shit.

can’t swim

neither of them can really swim, due to the whole ‘life in space’ thing. but jasper kind of picked it up when he jumped in to help octavia. even if they were olympic level swimmers, though, neither of them has plans to get in the water any time soon.

remembers to feed the fish

if they had fish, monty would have to be in charge of feeding them. but jasper would be in charge in interior bowl design. those fish would have a killer looking castle.

puts up Christmas decorations in November

jasper would bring out the box and monty would help, because who doesn’t want a dancing santa robot to be out a month early?

sends inappropriate texts and SnapChats while the other is in a meeting

jasper. but not inappropriate in the ~sexy sense. he likes to send pictures of steve buscemi and gary busey photoshopped into compromising positions. it’s just not holy.

makes Sims just to drown them in the pool

definitely jasper, on a bad day. and monty just stands behind him, shaking his head and saying ‘put in a ladder, dude. i get that murphy sucks, but you don’t need to drown him.’

brings the other coffee at work

monty! he’s a sweetie angel nugget who’ll bring coffee and breakfast because he knows that jasper definitely didn’t have time to get ready beyond brushing his teeth. he’s a late riser.

takes gym locker room selfies

neither of them, omg. grocery store selfies, though... those happen on both ends in abundance.

signs them up for tennis lessons and a salsa-making class

jasper signs them up for the weirdest shit. mostly stuff that monty brings up when they’re completely smashed. but they go, because it’d be rude to sign up for a salsa-making class and not actually go. even if it is full of old white ladies.

forgets to charge the other’s iPad and leaves it dead on the coffee table

that would be monty. when he gets into the zone with... whatever it is that he does on his ipad, time flies too quickly to notice his own dwindling battery. so while his own is charging, he moves on to jasper’s! but, of course, he lets jasper borrow his when he wakes up and realizes that monty has drained his battery. and then jasper leaves it dead on the kitchen counter.
